oozbao...actually no, my dad does business over there kaya once in a while I go to Davao. kaya medyo familiar narin ako sa place. We stay at the Marco Polo Hotel, actually nandun kami nung kadayawan festival. Ganda nga ng mga accessories na binebenta dun sa may parang flea market, sobrang mura. Try mo yung raisin bread sa Ca'Million sarap yun talaga. Promise try mo dun ha :) may-ari kasi nun friend ko eh...hehehe.

hi! i'm from davao but im currently in quezon city coz of my studies... la lang...

here some of the things i miss about davao:
1) clean water (2nd cleanest in the world!!!)
2) semi-fresh air
3) no traffic
4) knowing almost everybody
5) 5 - 10 minutes lang nasa destination ka na
6) eden, samal and all vacation spots

Davao is the best city in the Philippines. Most peaceful,not much pollution, people are laidback and relaxed, plus the cab drivers are honest(except the airport drivers). Metro Manila has the worst cab drivers in the whole world.BTW, matina sad ko, duol SM.

Hi Davaoeneos!!

I've been to Davao when I was in my late teens, and I was just amazed how beautiful the city is. It is so refreshing seeing an almost untouched areas with the beautiful beaches, beautiful view overlooking Mt. Apo, the bustling little traffic (compared to Manila, where I grew up) near downtown, the classic older jeeps than I never see anywhere else but there (and wonder how they could still be running today) . I never seen so beautiful place compared to other places in the Philippines that I would like to buy a house there someday and make my vacation home in the near future. I promised that when I left Davao.

I missed it.

I will be back!

may billiards din naman sa venue and i think may place din sa mts na may billiards...

i guess what's fun with mts is that it has blu gre cafe and you have alot of choices, tapos open air, kaya kahit buga lang ng buga ang mga tao, ok lang... sa venue naman, dami ding choices, kung trip mo sumayaw, malaki ang dancefloor tapos ok ang mga bands and palaging may sikat gaya ng freestyle, side a, etc kaya lang nga closed siya and pag nasa second floor ka medyo mapapansin mong may cloud hovering the first floor composed smoke from cigarettes and medyo masikip din...

Ala na soccer field -- pangwartahay na man daw ang AdDU karon. Naga-banabana gani sila na wala nay college admission test -- open admission na. No word on when that will start though.

We simply discovered that we come from the same school . . . its not a case of bragging. Its a Davao thread, and it so happens that some of the people here are from that school, and are simply catching up on things.

Have you ever been to a different place, and met someone from your home town or from your alma mater? Story swapping is normal.

If you feel you can't contribute to the developing AdDU segment of the thread, then there are others -- leave it alone. Its too trivial a matter to even be concerned about. Walay ma wala ba.

hi! i'm not from davao but i've friends there because i studied at ateneo for a while. and also we've relatives there din pala. last time i was there was about a month ago and i enjoyed my stay sooo much!

in the evenings i hanged out at the venue compound, sa one bar kasi mura lang yung tequila rose nila :D oh, and i also went to halo... cool place.

the people are so warm and friendly talaga, i still can't get over it. but how come most davao guys i know are either super torpe or super g@go? i still can't figure that out :teehee:

KuyaDanny no big damage really. just hairline cracks daw sa mga big buildings. although nag-panic yung mga guests ng Marco Polo Hotel, kse high rise building yun eh. pero ok lang naman, thank God! although i think there is one lady who died (not a guest of Marco Polo) from a heart attack, sobra siguro syang natakot sa quake.

about the earthquake i haven't heard anything about it from my mom so i assumed it wasn't a big deal. kasi pag may mga ganung pangyayayri usually, tumatawag agad yung mom ko para mag-balita... hmm... maka-tawag nga maya... btw, did you guys notice na for two consecutive years, every new year lumilindol sa davao??? kakatuwa nga nung lumindol nung jan 1 2001, inisip ng most ppl, signos na ng end of the world... hehe... :D

hi haik! most of the people i know in davao want to come to manila coz wala silang mahanap na work na gusto nila doon. but as the others have said and if you're open to the idea, you can try teaching there. i heard mababa ang sweldo but it's one of the trade-offs if you really wanna work in a traffic- and stress-free city :D

All alumni are invited to this 2nd major get-together in the south especially meant for AdMU alumni based in the VisMin regions.

Activities at the Marco Polo poolside start with a 6:30pm Mass, followed by dinner and fellowship. There will be complimentary food (courtesy of the Alumni Affairs Office) and a complimentary meal drink. Subsequent drinks will be for the account of the individual. In order to assist us with food preparations, you must CONFIRM your reservations no later than 5pm, May 7 at the numbers/email below.

AMDG Tour-Davao Leg

As part of the reunion on May 11, the Ateneo Golf Foundation will be hosting a golf tournament earlier in the day as detailed below.
Alumni of other Jesuit-run schools are welcome to participate. Due to limited slots, golfers are requested to CONFIRM their intention to play on or before May 7 at the numbers/email below:

Date: Saturday, May 11, 2002
Venue: Rancho Palos Verdes Golf & Country Club, Mandug/Indangan, Davao City
Registration: Starts at 7am
Tee-time: 8am to 11am (sequential start)
Format: 4 divisions based on submitted/declared handicap indices, with Champion and Runner-up for each division. There will also be a low gross winner.
Scoring System: Modified Stableford (MOLAVE) point system
Tournament Fee: P1,200 for nonmembers, P700 for members. Tour fee includes green fee, cart rental on a shared basis (2pax/cart), 2 mulligans (one per nine), giveaways, awards night dinner, one free practice round at Palos Verdes on Friday, May 10, and chances to win raffle prizes.

1) Hong Kong Food Festival at the Lotus Court until June 30. Nag-import po ng dalawang chef mula sa Hong Kong para turuan ang mga chef dito. Masasarap po ang amga bago nilang ulam! Gumasta naman kayo kahit papaano. :)

2) World Cup games via satellite at the Eagles Bar daily, 2:30pm and 7:30pm.

3) Cecile Licad performs at the ballroom on June 26.

speaking of davao politicians, i had a talk with my brod-in-law in davao and he was saying that "no smoking" in public establishments is now implemented in the city. way to go, duterte!!! duterte is very tough but i think he's been effective as a politician that way.

i think duterte and de guzman made a very good team before.. duterte handled the peace and order while de guzman's knack for development really made vast imporvement in davao's progress :D

stuff i miss most about davao:

- the fact that office hours start at 8 but you can leave the house at 7.45 and still get to the office on time
- taxi drivers who return your change, kahit na piso na lang
- being able to just put on a swimsuit and shorts and drive 10 mins to go to the beach
- the rain (hehe)
- cheap everything
- and of course the friendly people

Some of my co-workers who were from Manila, did have a trouble getting used to the slower pace of life:

- 24 hour establishments are rare; many places actually start closing at 6 pm

- Entertainment options are not as varied as those in Manila. You can't party in Malate one night, then bust your wallet in Rockwell the next. Nevertheless people from other cities, even as far as Mati, Cotabato and Gen. Santos, still come to Davao for R&R.

- I would have said the relative lack of variety in items that you could buy in malls (Gaisano included) -- but then again, I remembered that SM is there now.

- Corporate linkages in Davao-based universities might not be as well developed as manila based-schools. (But we can still compete toe to toe with the best in Manila)

- If your set on climbing the corporate ladder -- it might not be the best place to be. Nevertheless it is the economic hub of Mindanao (no offense to people from Cagayan de Oro -- after all your actually competing with Cebu :))

Nevertheless, you will appreciate:

- the absence of typhoons

- taxi drivers are not a-holes (even on Friday nights)

- traffic is no where near manila-levels

- people are more trusting, and less inclined to swindle (that what my manileno co-workers observed)

- relative proximity of the beach

- low cost of goods

- People won't take it against you if you don't speak Visayan


Davao is a great place to live; not necessarily the greatest place to work. One can't have everything. :cool:

after the 2 storms that hit Luzon, and seeing the flooded streets of manila and the rest of the cities there, i'm glad i'm here in davao... the whole time na hinahambalos ng bagyo ang Luzon, nagrereklamo sa init ang mga tao dito sa davao :sunnysmile:

.... i guess that's one of the perks of being in davao!
