Happy New Year!
A friendly reminder - when writing or accepting checks, be careful to check the DATE on the check. The most common mistake made in January is to write last year's date. It's hard to break a habit you've been doing for the last 12 months.
Affixing last year's date makes the check STALE, and banks may refuse deposit or encashment, requiring the payee to have the check redated by the maker.
So check your checks and check again. It is now January 2002.

The official Sniglet for this time of the year is Checkuary.
Checkuary (chek' yew air ee) n.
The thirteenth month of the year that begins New Year's Day and ends when a person stops absentmindedly writing the old year on their checks.
May Angels smile upon y'all,
Joe

HAPPY NEW YEAR, KUYA!!!
Just to correct a misconception, a check becomes STALE only after the lapse of 6 months. So, if one ante-dates a check say SEPTEMBER 1, 2001 the fact that the check is made/issued today does not make the check stale.

Of course, PUGSLY. Your explanation is accurate. Thank you.
I'm referring to the common mistake in January every year when people tend to write January 3, 2001 for example, when they really mean January 3, 2002.
