Well, my boyfriend is the male vocalist of a band, but well, I wouldn't exactly classify him as a rockstar.

I wasn't really into rockstars or bands before. I used to just date ballplayers. It wasn't like I was limiting myself to them but it just so happened that I was a lot into basketball (playing) myself, and I was always around them and they were the ones who showed interest. (According to my guy friends, nakakaintimidate daw kasi ako dahil mataray ako for "ordinary" guys)

I got tired of the womanizing ballplayers so after college, I just went out a lot and since I love music and I had friends in the music biz, I watched bands a lot.

I was first attracted to my boyfriend because of his looks, but that was it. It wasn't like I fell in love the first moment I saw and heard him sing. But what made me fall was something other girls didn't see, which I discovered when we were really good friends na. So, I can't really say I fell for his "rockstar" aura or anything. Heaven knows I'd rather he become a clerk or something more boring but he's so talented so sayang naman if he doesn't use it, diba?

I can see how these "rockstars" attract girls like magnet though. May charisma siguro talaga ang performers. And some of them (especially the ordinary-looking ones) are just like kids let out in a candy store just because all of a sudden, girls pay attention to them.

Two reasons why women are attracted to rockstars:

(1) Women are attracted to testosterone by nature. Rockstars are oozing with testosterone especially when they are performing live in concerts belting their lungs out to rock anthems.. And of course, in a concert setting- the alpha males are the rock stars and thus the most desirable males in the event.. this leads to the next reason.

(2) Women likes men that other women (people) like... Ika nga gusto nang mga girls yung nakikipag-agawan sila sa kokonting resource(s)... I guess girls choose them either because of their popularity or their money. There are girls kasi who wanna be in the limelight and be seen with that guy. I don't know for what reason, but it's true. But there are also those who really fall for famous people, not just rockstars because it's their thing (and it's their right...)

Here's my story....

My girlfriend is one talented girl, she's beautiful, she's rich, she's smart. She's popular too so when a certain rockstar, a certain college basketball cutie, and a certain actor all tried to woo her away from me (in a span of only three months), I was half expecting her to suddenly forget my existence. But I was wrong. Average guy that I am (and a dorky one at that) she stuck with me like Elmer's glue on my old grade school desktop.

And so I guess it really depends on what the girl wants, what's in her heart, and what she's really looking for.

I wanna think to myself that I beat those popular guys. That would have been a great ego booster on my part. But I know that in reality, it all came down to my girlfriend's choice.

After I proposed to her yesterday, I asked her why she turned down all those more famous suitors of hers. Her answer was simple and direct:

"I don't love them. I really don't care about the fame thing. I cheered for two years in the Pep Squad of DLSU. Every eye was on us every half time of every game. I didn't like it. Even if that fame was only for that half-time performance, I still didn't like it."

and on-topic, naturally : I've been in a couple of bands and I'm trying to be in one now and all I can say is that I've noticed that you can be one fugly mofo but if your band is rockin, the girls definitely take notice

and so do the guys!

the feeling of coming offstage after you've done a rocking set and people are staring at you (all sweaty and that) thinking whatever - there's no other feeling like it in the world. I feel like a 15 min rockstar!
and people high-fiving you to tell you that your voice was out-of-this-world and that you and the band rocked. it's something I wouldn't trade for a million bucks - I hope I get to do this until I die

on the creative side : it takes a lot of work to jive with four or five other people to create something that you all enjoy and that other people enjoy but on-stage, it's just worth all that time and practice.

the best thing about being on-stage is that it's your world for 40 minutes or 1 hour or more and you can do or say practically anything (no matter how idiotic) cause you're a rockstar! no-one isn't gonna argue with that while you're on-stage hehehehehe
