Question!
Para sa akin ok naman yung interview, and I think I made a good impression.
thanks!

Wow good luck! :)
Is that for the company you're really targeting?
What worked for me was, I first applied for positions in companies I didn't really like, and then I used the interviews I had with them for practice. I tried out different techniques and tips, from researching company facts to coming up with difficult questions, until I got the hang of the whole process. When I felt confident enough, I started applying in my target companies.
And I guess it worked. I just signed with my dream company few days ago. :D

this is a very good idea. like in many other things, practice makes perfect. apply in as many companies as you can, then accept as many interviews even just for the practive of going through an interview.
also, going through the interviews mean you will have contacts and connections - ask for calling cards for you to keep.

How long should one give his reply to a job offer? (either to accept or to reject it) If you already received a job offer from one company, but you still want to wait for the offers from other companies, how can you resolve this dilemma? What's the best way to get around with it?
What's the most acceptable way to reject an offer? (assuming that you don't really like it) Is it thru email, phone call, or text message? You can choose not to disclose the name of the company whom you chose over them, right? How should you say it politely? :)
once you have decided on a company, then you should tell all the others you have accepted a job.
why not disclose the company you are accepting? it's good to let them know so that they know where to get in touch with you the next time. you don't really have to disclose it, but i see noreason why not.

1.pano ba lusutan *** tanong na:
"so, how was your grades? / why did you fail in (insert subject here)?"
thanks =)
I am a university high-school teacher. IT subjects tinuturo ko.
nung tinanong nya ako, i just answered her the reason i got failing grades, kasi working student ako. so minsan di ako nakapagfocus.
pero now, i am planning to quit next year. gusto ko na mag work sa industries.. 2 years na kasi ako nag teach.

abcxyz,
how could i sell myself to my prospective employer if my job experience is only managing my internet cafe. i really wanted to try the corporate world for a change. btw, i have mba degree, most of my seminars/workshops were related to entrepreneurship and lastly, im 27 now.(',')
you applied the same management principles and practices that big business applies to your internet cafe. you performed the same kinds of functions and more. the other part you learned is how to read customers and how to increase customer satisfaction. those are definitely very useful.
it really depends on how you word these achievements and functions on your resume and during interviews. it's no small matter. be proud of it.

^^^ first things first. you shuold first make up in your mind what kind of work you want to do, what kind of company you want to work for and what salary you will be happy with. also look into what kind of future the company you will join has for you. this is your first job, and it is a most important job as this will be your foundation. work attitudes and skill sets will be formed by this first company. it will be the first in your resume. you want it to be a very good one.
do not accept just any job, make sure all the things that are important to you are met.
after you have figured that out, use it as a framework in answering the companies who have offered you a job. just tell them you are no longer interested in their offer. you may or may not give them an answer why. you can say its salary or just say you are waiting for a better offer.

so mam can i just probably say that i am waiting for a better offer? wouldn't that be rude or something? what i didnt get any better offers how can i get back to their offer?
I think it really depends on how you say it, but generally, there's nothing rude about it. In fact, I know people who got better offers after they'd declined and politely said the initial one was too low. However, if you let it known that the offer was too low and the company still didn't make any changes, your chances of getting it back (after rejecting it) would be real low. It's a risk, really. So like abcxyz said, make sure you have a clear idea on what you want (salary, type of work, career growth, etc.).

may final interview ako kanina at area manager *** nag interview sakin, waaahh..
goal?: i said..."blah blah blah blah..." tapos, di ko alam bigla ko nalang naisagot to: "i also want to be one of the best employees in your company"
- tapos medyo nangiti *** interviewer (parang pang asar n ngiti), tapos dinalihan ako ng ganito: " so do u think promoted ka na nun?"
tinanong din ako ng ganito:
if ever ilagay kita sa 6 month probation tapos may quota, magkano kaya mong ipasok na pera sa company?
"kelan ka available for work?"
"anytime po"
isa lang yta kasi *** kukunin, tapos nung tapos na mainterview *** isa, sabi samin tatawagan nalang daw kung ano result. haaay. ayan nanaman *** "tatawagan-script"!
teller *** inaaplyan ko. eh bakit kelangan ko ng quota? ano kaya un. tinetest lang kaya ako.
haaay. ano bang dapat kong sinagot or ginawa? para di ko na maulit next time.
mukhang ang liit yata ng chance ko.

Best be honest sa sagot at pag tinanong ka what ever mumbo-jumbo, answer it in an achievable manner ,just think that any answer good or bad represents you being hired or getting the best salary negotiation possible on any position that is available.

How many interviews have you had? If he's your first interviewer, it means the company is in a rush to hire. But, yep, usually he's the last one to screen applicants.
From experience, aside from the usual academic and leadership background probing, presidents and other top managers like asking situational questions, like: "what would you do when faced with an ethical dilemma? When, say, I, your boss, asked you to 'cook the books'... how would you respond?" Or, he may also ask a "technical" question, like: "how would you estimate the demand of softdrinks in your school?" Something like that. Haha.
Just remember, he's the president of the company, don't waste his time. So prepare real well! *pressure*
Good luck!

yes thats usually the final interview. suggest you review this thread from page 1 to prepare for it. and look at your resume again and formulate questions and answers.
that is good very good advice given to you - he is the president, do not waste his time, prepare well.
it really depends the kind of management style the president has. some who are very hands on will interview you like hell, as in ask the you about everything, just like the ones before him. others will who are more on the delegating side will not ask anything, making the interview with the president just a formality. for face value only, which he means all that the president wants is to meet you and see your face.
but the latter kind of president doesn't mean you can be lousy. remember, the ultimate decision is that of the president. he is the dude you need to impress.
again, go through this thread from page 1 to prepare for it.
i'll give you one more tip -make sure you put in that shows you are also CORPORATE ORIENTED either in your answers or in the question you are allowed to ask. he is after all corporate.
good luck. come back here and tell us about your experience.

bad idea to have this rescheduled.
don't forget, this is not just about the company interview, this is also about COMPETITION. do not forget there are OTHER applicants for the same position. what if you reschedule, but the other applicants do not reschedule and the company interviews someone who might not be better than you but was the best during the day, and they make the offer to that person?
don't forget - it's also a COMPETITION. the best person and the person who do not mind the storm may win!
didn't you say this is an interview with the president of the company? how can you even ask if it's ok to have this rescheduled when its the president you will be talking to? its preposterous! what kind of impression will you be making with the president if you reschedule? you will be showing no respect to his position.
if you are being hired to work under my department and i hear you postponed the interview with the president for whatever reason and specially for a childish reason like the storm, i'd withdraw my recommendation to hire you even if the president wants you hired. i'd definitely not allow you to work in my department.

I also have a question. :D Would it be ok to reschedule an appointment(discussion of my job offer) due to the storm? :hmm: I've already made it through the series of interviews and exam so I suppose competiton would be of no matter because I would go there to know the compensation package and for the contract signing. I would be coming from Cavite and would be going to Makati so it's around 2-3hrs travel. Thanks!

I just had my interview with the manager together with the person whose going to be my mentor if ever I get the job. The mentor asked this questions which are actually I didnt expect:
2. How do you handle pressure?
Actually this is my first ever job interview buti nakalusot ako sa hR pero sa manager parang nadali ako huhuhuhu...Di ko gano nasagot yung mga questions. Sabi ko na lang ah eh sir ah eh??......blah blah blah...Is there a correct answer to this? I really want to work na talaga. ;(

you gave one of the best answers to that question. and that's why he gave you that kind a retort.
you could have answered back by saying - you do not know if that will get you promoted, but all you want to do is do your best at what you are doing. tell him it's how you are - you always try to do your best in everything to do.
tinanong din ako ng ganito:
if ever ilagay kita sa 6 month probation tapos may quota, magkano kaya mong ipasok na pera sa company?

first of all, let give me you what i think of your interviewer - he is an a$$ hole. he was on a "im better than you" ego trip. he was not doing his job properly. he wasn't focussed on finding out about you, he was intent on proving you wrong or slapping you around. very unprofessional. let me guess - he is young? new in his job? male?
but, don't let the above comment stop you from getting what you want. just want to share my thoughs about the a$$ hole.
moving on.....
on the above - in situations like that, it's best to be honest, as the advice given you in the other post.
you could have told him you could not give a proper estimate or opinion on how much you can make because you do not know yet what the job is, you have not been given training and you have not tried it.
then you go back to selling yourself - say you will always try your best to meet goals. and enumerate the traits or qualities that you have that you can use for the job.
if he tells you he is superman, he made quadrillion of pesos on his own, turn the table on the a$$ hole and ask him how did he do it. listen to the things he says and confirm with him you'll try your best to achieve something like that and expound on why you think you have what it takes to do what he did.
may the heavens save the fresh graduates from a$$ holes like the person who interviewed you.

suggested answers:
> in varying degrees, all jobs can be repetitive. it's a given to all jobs. it does not matter if it's repetitive if as long as i enjoy doing it. also, the knowledge that there is room for advancement in the future is good motivation to get over boredom on the current job.
> handle pressure - cite examples of how you handled pressure from past experiences. you want to highlight your unwavering attitdue to get things done and to achieve no matter what. if you applied creative ways to handle it, metion that too.
different people handle pressure in different ways, so go back to how you did it in the past.

hi i want to share my experience with all of you ^_^. I am a fresh graduate and i finished BS tourism. i didnt realize until now how hard it is to search for a job especially in our field because physical appearance is very important, fortunately i have the height :D. after graduation i didnt know what job i wanted. i just want a work that requires interacting with other people (although i am not a sociable person) i just dont want to work in a cubicle in front of a computer all day long. i went to the tourism job fair organized by DOT. i gave my CVs to hotels and some local airlines.
there was this agency who keeps on asking me to go to their booth and meet her boss. they offered me a job in Bahrain as a hostess in a fine dining restaurant of a 5 star hotel. i was hesitant because working abroad was not in my plan. then i talked to my parents about it. to cut the story short, i accepted the offer and i am now waiting for my visa and contract. i am really scared at the same time excited. i was kind of spoiled so i dont know how to be independent. my parents say that im kind of naive. i accepted the offer because i want to be more independent. i want to learn to live by myself and make my own decisions. i know that accepting the job is REALLY a BIG STEP for me so im just being positive and i am hoping for the best. good luck to the fresh grads of 2008

^^school is a big part of employment here in our beloved country, sad and unfortunate to admit..
it is good that you are a working student, keep your grades high and definitely after you graduate, better road will be available for you to take..
for the meantime, keep yourself focused on studying and working, sometimes it is easier to forget your degree and just have a decent job..keep your goals within reach, it is the only thing that would keep you moving..

To start, I am a fresh CommArts graduate, walang major pero Advertising and Production ang main interests ko. So basically, ang companies na pinupuntahan ko ay either Production Houses or Ad Agencies.
May isang ad agency akong napuntahan (walk-in), at nagulat ako kasi timing yata na may vacancy. May pinasagutan na sakin (which I think is profile lang, parang getting to know) tapos after a few minutes may kumausap na sakin, hindi sya HR personnel eh, nagpakilala sya as Marketing Manager. The interview went good, nakakasagot ako sa mga questions nya and she even told me the nature of my possible work, she even asked me when could I start to work after their possible notice, and tinanong na rin nya ako regarding expected salary...
After the interview, I had no more questions, after we shaked hands she told me "We'll be calling you soon"
Ang tanong ko po, usually ba gaano katagal kang maghihintay kapag ganyang lines ang binanggit sayo after an interview? And also, mas maganda po ba kung i-follow up ko yung status ng application ko?

You don't have to sign on the spot. You can ask if they can give you time to think it over, and then they'd usually give a deadline. How long the offer is on the table, etc. Of course, prior to that they'd ask why don't you want to sign immediately, what are your reservations, etc.
I think it really depends on the company and how urgent is the position. But generally, they can't force you to sign anything.

on the surface, yes, its a negative if the job offered to you is not your ideal job. that can be interpreted as you might not be happy in that job if you accept it.
BUT.... the decision to hire you or not will NOT rest on one question alone. the employer will make an assessment on your skills, experiences, attitude and qualifications on your ability to do the job being offered to you.
that means, your chances of getting hired will be dependent on how you sold yourself, the things you told them you are good at - still on the skill sets, experiences, attitudes and qualifications. even if its not your ideal job but they think you can do a good job at it and you're the best candidate they have interviewed, they will offer the job to you.
as stated in this thread many times --- you need to sell yourself. that inlcudes how well you explain or rationalize things. often times, employers will not look for right or wrong answers, they will only look at your thinking process, your approach to solving problems, leadershsip qualities and communication skills.
read the thread from page 1.

quick answer - there are no rules on length of time and what to do and what not to do. here's one rule you might want to follow - it's always good to follow up, sooner the better. apply a strategy on how to do this. please read the thread from page 1.

Is there an effect in the resume if for example me, I am working while studying and our university is not well known compared to the schools at the metro?
mr.green gave yo a good answer. i like to add mine:
yes, it matters what school you go to. depending on the position and the company, sometimes its a first requirement.
but it does not mean students who graduate from other schools dont have a chance. of course they do - but that depends on how well you write your resume and cover letter. if you're able to write a great cover letter and resume, you will be interviewed and those who have done a bad job at it won't, even if they came from popular schools.
the cover letter and the resume is the basis for an assessment. do well in that and you will have a better chance at being interviewed.

smart casual would be good, just in case you get interviewed when you submit your resume. dont forget - ad agency people tend to be very fashionable and porma.

Good day guys and ladies. I've just one advice since competition is on for the fresh grads here's what I have to say. Target the companies that scares you the most. At least if you fail the interviews, you'll come out wanting for more. It's called "hunger" ;). As F. Nietsche said what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger. It works for me. I, too, am a recent grad btw. Dont be intimidated. God bless us all! Keep posting guys

question..... if in the final interview the interviewer asked you when can you start, is it safe to assume that you'll be getting the job?
It has been 2 weeks since my final interview and still no feedback from them... I'm getting frustrated already since I've always wanted to join the said company.... :(

the question "when can you start?" is a standard question, it may not mean anything. the only way you know you have the job is when an actual offer is made to you.
to the second point, this question appears in this thread often, and there is always one answer - call to follow up.

Jul 30, 2008, 09:34 AM
Hi marille_27.
Please read this thread from page 1, this is a big help if you are new here.
About your question: What do you think is the concern of interviewer? Thinking that you might leave your job if you got opportunity to work abroad? Then be honest but be careful. Yuo can answer yes, but not after 5years for you to get good experience. For me, I always answer that with "If I can have a good career here there's no need to go abroad".
Unless the company is outsourcing people abroad. Then answer it with straight "yes".

usually 1 month talaga ang notice for resignation. it's up to you if you want to use up your leaves (terminal leave) kung gusto mo pa magpahinga before transferring to another company. but my advise, respect the 30day notice period para rin naman maganda ang relationship mo with your present company after you resign. you wouldn't know if in the future eh bumalik ka jan sa company for some reasons.

usually terminal leave is just a term for using up your accumulated leaves during your 30 day notice. but for probies, wala ngang VL and SL so malabo yun. check mo rin with HR kasi afaik, pag proby, usually 1wk or 2wks notice pwede na. i might be wrong so better talk to HR first.

Aug 2, 2008, 10:35 AM
^^^ that is correct.
lets say you have been 1 year in a company and you have unused 5 days vacation leave. the requirement is you need to give 30 days notice before you resign. when you resign and tender your terminal leave, you can report to work for 25 dyas, with the 5 days of unused leave subtracted from it. that means you can stop reporting to work after 25 days only (rather than 30).
steelbody - you have been working in that company only for two months and therefor you are a probationary employee, you do not earned vacation or sick leave days yet. that usually starts after becoming a regular employee.

yes that hard to handle. but you need to learn to cope with it. move on. there will be other companies. and this will not be the first rejection you will get.
analyze the experience and apply improvements. good luck.

im in a dilemma right now.
last week i got hired by Company A, but a day before that, i applied to Company B (na dream ko talaga), pero i wasnt sure if they'll give me a chance kasi so I decided not to wait for it.
a day before I start out with Company A, Company B called me up for an exam. i decided to go. but the thing is, what happens, assuming i passed the exam? i'll go under training with Company A and i don't like to have absences agad.
and would it make a good impression with Company B, na i just got hired tapos ineentertain ko sila? magkaiba sila ng field (hindi sila magka kompetensya), and i know walang assurance na i would make it there, but i would like to try.
if ever company B asks for an appointment, pwede kaya after office hours or saturday?? im new to these things. i dont know the best way to handle my situation. your thoughts will be a great help. thanks!

companies know that people they like to hire either have work already or are always on the prowl for other opportunities in other companies. that's no secret. so company B will understand these things you are doing.
you and whoever company you are entertaining can fix things to accomodate the realities that you face. all of that can be done with proper scheduling.

well, di ko rin alam kung bakit, IT job naman ang inaaplayan mo eh. Pero kung ako nasa lugar mo, i would answer "Yes, just to prove to myself that I can do it".
Four months ago, I applied for 4 companies, for oracle prorammer position. They always ask if I'm going to take OCP exams. I noticed that positive answer (yes, in the next 3months or before end of the year), I made a good impression.
It also means that you are still aiming for higher goal. You also invest some on your qualifications, an arsenal for professionals like us. And this could put you on advantage over other applicants.
This is just my simple analysis. Hope this help.:)
...till now, I don't bother to take that business oriented exams of oracle(OCP). I opted to save my 18K instead. hehehe...:)

Hi! may tanong lang ako tungkol sa interviews
kasi diba usually companies do a series of interviews in screening an applicant (usually 3 interviews)
my question is what is the difference of each interview other than being conducted by different persons.
ang alam ko sa first interview
ang usual questions
-Tell me about yourself
-Why should we hire you
-What can you contribute to our company
-and other questions with scenarios etc
sa second and succeeding interviews ano ang pinagkaiba sa first

Interview attire: Absolute minimum: Wear a dress shirt + dress pants + dark leather shoes. Khaki pants + collared shirt = no.
For those from outside Manila - go to National Bookstore and get a copy of the Metro Manila Atlas by Accu-map (yung GPS referenced ; there are several 'sizes' available) - very useful!

there are no rules or patterns on this one. anything goes.
you get interviewed by three people because those three people need to decide or approve your employment. you should ask who are the people and what positions they have in the company before you are interviewed.
typically - 1. HR, 2. supervisor of the dept, 3. division head, 4. president. again there are rules here. but for sure you need to impress all of them and any of them can ask you anything.

there is no better way to handle it other than just take a leave. if you take a leave and you are not yet entitled to it yet, then you don't get a salary for that day. and of course if you take a leave, your supervisor or boss might take that against you. so make sure the reason you give them for taking a leave is good one.
the other way is to schedule the interview or whatever it is youre supposed to do after office hours or on saturdays.

that was a very bad answer. you sounded like you did not know what you were doing, did not know the company you were applying for and you sounded very superficial, frivolous and not smart.

However, before I read this thread (from page 1 at nasa kalahati na ako.:D), I applied for an IT position and answered the question provided by jobstreet. The question is "Why should we hire you?" and my answer goes like this:
"as a fresh graduate, I am currently in state of proving myself. Meaning, you can have an assurance that I will do everything at my very best to make a contribution both for the company and for my career, and you can just see that for yourself if you are going to hire me because saying is one thing and proving is another thing". Now, i am being bothered because I found out through this thread that the right answer is to elaborate your skills and the reason why you are suit to that kind of job. (waaa, baket ba di ko naisip un?!). Now, do you think my application will not consider because of that mistake?

Meaning, you can have an assurance that I will do everything at my very best to make a contribution both for the company and for my career, and you can just see that for yourself if you are going to hire me because saying is one thing and proving is another thing". Now, i am being bothered because I found out through this thread that the right answer is to elaborate your skills and the reason why you are suit to that kind of job. (waaa, baket ba di ko naisip un?!). Now, do you think my application will not consider because of that mistake?
and also, I'm not a good communicator in english. hahahaha.. minsan napapatagalog na talaga ako kasi alam kong mas mapapaintindi ko *** gusto kong sabihin by using our native language (iniisip ko na lang prinsipyo ni rizal :rotflmao:). pero lagi pa rin naman ako nagppraktis (like what I'm doing right now), so just wondering if you get my point about my "why should we hire you" situation. :D Thanks.
well, your answer is not a catastrophic one that you won't get hired for the job because of it. it's an answer that will not catch the attention of the employer and has a 50-50 chance of success-failure. and of course, what you want is all your answers shoud give you at least an 85% chance of success.
your answer is one about your attitude on your job. it talks about energy and determination. and those are good things but everyone else can say the same things. and those are not the first things an employer look for. the first thing they look for are your qualifications - skills, talent and knowledge in performing the job. when they see you have that, then they look for attitude.

It's a good thing that you're trying to practice your English communication skill. Knowing how to express yourself well in English during job interviews is very important. Keep practicing. I think this is where the cliché "practice makes perfect" applies.
I'd also like to share with you what the speaker in a seminar I have attended said about English communication:
"We Filipinos have started learning English since we started going to school. From prep or kindergarten until we graduate from college, we have English subjects. But as you may notice, most graduates are still having a hard time using the language. You know why? Because we don't frequently use it. We use our native language in our daily communication. We don't use English that much. So I would advice all of you to practice your English every once in a while. Remember if you don't use it, you lose it."

Question: What is the proper way to react kapag hindi magaling ang nagiinterview?
There was also this one time wherein I was being interviewed by an HR personnel, then she doesn't seem to listen to what I was saying . She kept on staring at the monitor of the computer and typing something. It was very distracting! She was sending IMs to her boss, daw. I was thinking of asking her to focus on the interview and continue chatting with her boss after na lang ng interview but I chose not to. Do you think I was wrong?

what choice do you have? you just have to repeat your answer. better yet, repeat your answer and introduce another topic that will sell yourself more. some topic you are very confident about and that is a sure winner.

a very unprofessional HR person. they should not be in jobs like that.
this is a tough one.
if the person is paying attention to someone else and is not listening to you, that means that HR person did not get to know you and has very little to zero basis for giving a fair assessment of you.
with that, that HR person will probably not recommend you, walang basis e.
so the thing for you to do is actually tell the person that you will come back when he/she is done with whatever she/he is doing so that she/he can focus on the interview.
when you say, the HR person who is stupid to begin with might get offended and might be antagonistic towards you and fail you. but what have you got to lose? if you don't call the peson's attention, you will be failed just the same.
i guess you just have to find a way to say it nicely.

what you did is work. its just that a company you own. and in those two years you must have learned something about : dealing with people, retaining customers, improving systems, sustaining quality, dealing with customers, managing and making sure technology works, etc.
reflect on those and see what kinds of things you learned in those two years that you can apply to the job you applied for. there are a lot.

being able to communicate well in english is a big advantage. in fact i think its a requirement in finding a good job. the lingua franca of business is english.
its ok to use pilipino during interviews, but make sure you have first demonstrated your skills in speaking in english. you will earn points if you show you are good in english but thats not the case when you show you are good in pilipino.

abcxyz,
I'm not sure if my question has been asked and answered as I have no time to do some "backreading," nonetheless here's my situation:
I'm planning to apply (actually I already did) in a job not related to my degree. The job says any course will do but graduates of a business course is an advantage, adding that fresh grads are welcome to apply giving me the impression that this is an entry level job.
My question is, would my work experience be enough to compensate the fact that I am a graduate of Non business course?
And would I be receiving entry level salary or would my salary expection work against my chances of being hired? I think quoting a figure equal to, if not a little higher than my current job is fairly reasonable, right?
I appreciate your input and thanks in advance. :D

just want to make sure its clear -- do not forget the lingua franca of business in the philippines is english, so its a must you must be your best in speaking english. and you must demonstrate you are good at it. a simple guideline - during the whole interview, you must speak in english 90% of the time.
another guide - when the quesiton is asked in english, answer in english. if the question is in pilipino, answer in pilipino. that's also good manners.
but please DO NOT SPEAK in taglish. speak straight in english or straight in pilipino.

if it says a "business course" is just an advantage, it means anyone can apply, it's just an advantage and those without will not be interviewed.
"business management" is not a technical course like IT or accounting or engeneering where in jobs that require those, you need to take up specialized courses and even universities.
business acumen or skills can be learned from any other work experience or even real life. you just have to to explain these using business jargon.
there actually no rules on what kind of salaray they will offer you. they will offer you the salary that they think you are worth, one that can get you to join them and last, the budget that they have for it.
will your real work experience compensate for not having taken up in college. yes of course. that is one of the key reasons why interviews are very importtant - that's one of the things they are looking for and want you to demonstrate.
and that leads me to say -- that's why its important for you to read this thread from page 1. don't take my word for it, very many here have said it and posted it in this thread - you will gain a lot if you read the thread from page 1.

what harm will it do if you apply now? you have NOTHING to lose if you try it again.
but if you do, make sure you submit a cover letter and resume that is different and much better than what you submitted previously. if you didnt make it the first time, that can mean your submissions were weak, so dont make the same mistake by submitting the same thing.

Fresh grad din ako pero payo ko sa mga kapwa ko fresh grad..if you area applying for a position..as much as possible..keep it confidential ..apply for the position alone…
since I know a lot of alumni. I also know a lot of job openings….
I always share the job openings to my classmates . I text those who have a number on my phone book or sometimes I post job vacancies thru our yahoo group or friendster…
I just want to help them, hehehe siguro nadala ko *** pagiging student officer at class officer…I am concerned with them..kahit sila hindi :)
To tell you the truth I was hurt..coz even my friends didn’t reply or tell me that they have applied in a position I told them about…….. they think that I not telling them all about he job vacancies I know..…now I decided that maybe I just keep things to myself especially when it is about job vacancies..
yeah, may mga ibang friends nga na ganyan. and that's kinda acceptable naman in a way. but in my opinion, those aren't "best" friends. they may be true friends... pero those are the kinds na hindi pang-matagalan... na u'll eventually drift apart with. trabaho pa lang pinagtatalunan na... what more pa deeper things db?

At the end of my last interview (almost 2 weeks ago), after the usual stuff they tell you, like, they're just gonna call you if you got the position, etc. Sabi sakin: "...ok? so ang gagawin ko dito sa application mo... ahh.. itatapon ko na 'to." Of course, she was kind of laughing when she said that. But I swear I almost lost my temper there. Syempre nakitawa na lang din ako.
Anyway.. may bearing ba yung sinabi niyang yon? Or napaparanoid lang ako?

don't bother trying to interpret what that meant. your guess is as good as mine. just give them a call to follow up as soon as possible.
----
separately, that HR person was extremely unprofessional for saying that. you had every reason to feel angry and insulted. kudos to you for checking your temper. shows your maturity and how smart you are.
but that HR person is an idiot. if she did that to me, i would have given her a large piece of my mind. i wouldn't have cared if i got the job or not. i would demand for an apology from her. i would also probably demand to talk to the HR Director and complain about her. and after the verbal complaint, i will write directly to the president of the company. i would be aiming that that HR person be fired from her job.
i would look at what she did as direct and intense personal insult into my character. the resume she wanted to throw into the trash can is who i am. and i will not allow anyone to throw me into the trash, even as a joke. we all take pains in making our resumes, a lot of time, effort and thought are put into it. i find what she said as a direct afront to my person.
again, kudos to you for keeping your cool and being able to restrain yourself. employers should hire you for those things.

someone sent me a pm that he and a classmate of his applied for jobs together in the same companies. his friend landed a job, he did not.
then he found out from his friend that the friend has read this thread and he has not. the one who sent me a pm told me he felt bad he read this thread too late and also kinda felt bad that his classmate did not tell him about this thread.

Interview Questions and Ways to Answer Them
2) Why do you want to work here? What about our company interests you?
Show your enthusiasm and interest about the company. Talk about how your professional skills would benefit the company.
answer this in such a way that the interviewer will see what you can do/contribute for the company, rather than with what the company can do for you.

Just want to share my experience in interviewing applicants, especially fresh graduates.
Many applicants are stiff nervous during the interview that they find it hard to understand, let alone answer the question correctly.
When I notice that the applicant is too nervous, I will ask him first if he's nervous (baka normal naman kasi yung panginginig nya:lol:), if yes, I'll tell him not to be nervous, I'm just like any other person who is talking to him (tao lang yung interviewer just like anybody else). That the worse thing that will happen during that interview is that he will not be hired, which is not that bad. He can always apply to other companies or apply again in the future.
I will explain to him that I cannot assess his competence if he cannot answer the questions because of nervousness.
Ganyan din ako nung fresh grad, but I later realize, tao rin yung mga interviewer. It's their loss not mine if they will not hire me (konting payabang to build self confidence:D)
Don't be nervous during the interview. Just be yourself and don't pretend to be somebody that you're not.
Be honest.*okay*

i hope the college prof also told you the most important thing - first and foremist, your resume must have substance and it must make a good selling job of you in the fewest number of pages you can fit it into.
i hate it when professors tell their students to write the resume into a 1 page and when you read it, it is empty in content. many 1 page resumes were sent to me for comment and they said the same thing, their prof told them to make it into 1 page but when you read it, they don't contain anything good that effectively sells the candidate.
yes of course shorter the better. but that is NOT the most important thing. the most important thing is the content. it must have substance and the most important of all - it must sell.
employers will not judge your resume by the number of pages, they will judge it on content.

yes that is ok. in fact all applicants should ask that question. it's smart for you to ask so that you can make a better decision at what company to join.
just make sure you can answer the same question you ask. be prepared to give your point of view. and also be prepared to answer why you asked that question.

Better to be honest than to cheat
Its not necessary means that HRs would kick u out again once they heard from you that u did not passed before, its a good show of being honest and HRs would appreciate more to see somebody wants to re-apply because it shows that you are really interested to join their organization.
But make sure to follow their given interval before you apply again. You may contact them to know when you can able to apply again.

^^ pero syempre by this time patunayan mo na karapat dapat ka sa company na yun and siguro may idea ka narin sa hiring processing nila so may advantage ka narin.
Good luck!

Uy!
Tapos sunod-sunod pa yung mga tumatawag for exam and interview bago yung araw na un.
Hahaha.

tomorrow??? that's cutting it really thin.
i would suggest you read this thread from page 1 - there are a lot of tips on resume writing.
here are a few:
> make it achievement oriented
> or your contributions to things that achieved or those that succeeded
> call center work is essentially customer relations. that also means you have gained skills and experience on understanding the customer or consumer. the customer or consumer is most important in marketing.

Hello ulet!!!
I've got information about my target company na ang attire sa office is long sleeves and neck tie.
Is it still okay to wear polo as my attire during the interviews/exam? Do you think wearing the same attire ethics that was implemented in the company would affect somehow my chances to get employed?
Kayo po, ano po suot nyo nung nag-aaply kayo back as fresh grad? Hehehe... curious lang.

The best book I have read regarding the subject.
Buy it! I did! And I could hardly put it down.
from resumes to dealing with interviews to package negotiations...
the book is targeted at an American audience but if the HR people in the Philippines have been trained in American ways, then this book should be relevant
It discusses why you should have only a 1-page resume
and how to deal with interview tricks and traps; how to deal with interviewing methods such as the interrogation, tag interview, boss interview, etc
it teaches you how to negotiate for top money...

Thanks! I did read a lot of great tips from this thread. I already had a resume. I just needed to tweak it a bit. I know this is off-topic, but do you think it's a good career move (if and/or when I get the job)? Your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm new here in PEX but I've been reading a lot of things here. I just read this long topic last night, and had this itchy feeling that I have to post something.
I'm a fresh ECE graduate, bored to take the board exams. I just had my first job interview EVER last week, bago ko pa malaman na may ganitong forum. I'll list down the questions and my answers to them.
1. Describe yourself - I just stated my name and my hobbies (computer related stuff)
2. Why do you wanna work here? - I forgot what I told them, but it was about gaining the values instilled to their employees (I often contact them during HS days when I had PC problems)
3. When did you last exemplify leadership? - Thesis days. I lead a team of three, which lead to us being nominated for most outstanding thesis, but we didn't win. (This part shows that I'm a good leader). I also told them that to be a good leader, you must be a good follower as well.
4. Greatest achievement in life? - Graduate college.
5. .. And some random questions.. My answers were like this:
* I learn programming by myself, I use internet resources. (fast and eager learner, perhaps?)
* I'm having a hard time sleeping when I don't finish the job that I want to finish on that day. But I make sure that the tasks that I assign to myself are reasonable, doable on that day. (Perhaps this shows perseverance?)
* I love a job that would make me meet new people. (Friendly, communicator?)
Now my ultimate question is.. Do you think I did well on my first job interview?
After the interview, I felt really confident. As in. Gusto ko pa nga magpainterview ng tuloy-tuloy nun eh, as in gusto ko magkwentuhan kami nung interviewer ko and grab some coffee. Para akong nagkkwento ng buhay ko eh, which was fun.
Please, I need your thoughts. Thanks!

i don't think anyone who reads your post can tell you for certain if you did well or not for the simple reason that except for the person who interviewed you, nobody knows what they are looking for in a person they will hire. we are not privy to that, so we don't have a yardstick for it.
having said that, here's my reaction to your answers:
> you did well in attempting to deliver a message or creating an impression in every answer you gave. that's exactly the correct idea in answering questions for interviews. you want to impress them in every answer you give them. and each answer should make a "sale" of you.
> you could have applied the same strategy/thinking on your answer to question #1. rather than just telling them your hobbies, tell them your skills, your personality, your enthusiasm, etc.
> question # 2 - the answer is ok but it could have been better if you flattered them. say something like you think its a good company based on your experience with them. tell them what impressed you about them. flattering the company you want to work for works very well.
> based on the questions you listed, that company seem to put a premium on achievers and leaders. i have said it before in this thread that selling yourself as an achiever and being a leader should be two of the top messages you want to communicate in an interview or a resume for all companies/industries.
> you did not make any mistakes. well done. and your answers were good. but like i said, it really depends on what they are looking for. and equally important, how do you compare versus others they interviewed.
of course, there is no way you can tell about the last one, so the thing for you to do is always be your best. reading this thread from page 1 according to many is very useful.

I was not really prepared for questions 1 and 2. But I think it was just an introductory question, I mean, to get to the real deal. Because after those questions, they told me that "Ok, so here's how your interview would go.." So i guess those 2 didn't reflect on my interview that much.

wow this is a very interesting thread for me! TS i have a question for you but before that. let me tell you someting first. im not a fresh grad but since i worked for a family business all my life i never had any experience on sending resumes interviews etc. what im used to, was to interview employees study their profile, recruit, hire, train and develop employees skills.
hahaha i really never thought that i would be doing the same thing that my merchandisers went through. since year 2000 i was the one responsible for the hiring and training of our merchandisers and promo girls. i also handled 7managerial positions during those times. due to some problems i quit the job. presently im working in a call center (family owned business, telemarketing) as a managing director. in short i never even had the chance to write my own resume until i realize that my experience is very shallow! i made big decisions for the company that made the company grew my employees were all satisfied with me.. they even called me "the best boss" they had. sana totoo hehehe.
by the way, since the comapny where i work now is already stable. i told my parents that i want to try different things! at fisrt they were hesitant eventualy wala na sila magawa! i told them i need GROWTH! the company nga pala can operate without me na din.. we still have our supervisor to watch out for them. i need to work outside the company for my personal growth! yan ang gusto ko! hind lahat ay puro salary lang so gusto ko naman lumabas sa comfort zone ko!
TS even if i am not a fresh graduate.. this is the very first time i write a resume and the first time to have an interview. WOW!! i hate it honestly.. kaya sana hindi ako OT since yung anxiety ko pareho lang ng fresh grad! what to expect sa interviews and job hunting.
my questions is
when i apply for a job should i start from the entry level? im afraid that my resume would not be substantial, with the experience that i had. can i send you my resume for you to check? pleaseeee

yes i can review your resume. will pm you the email addy.
you are wrong about your resume not sounding substantial. in fact i think it is very substantial. don't sell yourself short, just because its a family business and its a small company it means you did nothing. on the contrary you have done a lot.
you actually performed the same functions many other managers annd heads of companies have performed in big multinational companies.
what will be key for you is actually how you write these up in a resume. you need to use words and terms that are very business oriented.
what level? that depends on what you want. i have not read your resume but i think you are over-qualified for an entry level position. i need to read your resume first, but i think you can qualify for a managerial level.
you also have to decide what company/industry you want to work for.
what about putting up you own business?

the tips you will read in this thread will apply and will be helpful. there will be things that will be specific, technical in nature, depending on the position and function you are applying for. if you are an accountant, obviously there will be questions that will look into your competency in accounting, same thing in IT, etc. otherwise, you will find the posts here as helpful.
as you would read in this thread - do research on the bank you are applying at and the banking industry. showing you are aware of the bank and the industry is always impressive.

don't criticize the offer, the job nor the company.you can tell them you have found something that is a better fit for your skills and ambitions. tell them you want to be challenged and you have found something else that you think i more challenging, something more diffiuclt. that way you put yourself as ambitious.
of course when you say those things, you need to be able to say specifics. invent it. but make sure you think about it so you don't get caught.
and as an ending, you tell them that you will call them up when things dont go well and request that you be contacted again if something more interesting comes up from that company.

abcxyz, is it relevant to include employment background like working in a call center kahit na sa bank ka mag aaplay? Kase parang anlayo na eh?
in the first place, you're supposed to include all your working experiences in your resume.
i also think any kind of working experience is usable, it all depends on what you got out of the working experience and how you word it.
what is the core of a call center job? isn't it about customer satisfaction and customer service? those are very useful for banks. in fact, the most number of complaints on most banks is poor customer service and a key challenge to banks is customer satisfaction.
having worked in a call center whould have taught you things about those things and would have allowed you to acquire skills on those components.
what are the attitudes and skills that you need to be good in call center job? these are : understanding customers, undestanding and mastering processes and procedures, attention to details, sticking to plans and programs, continually getting feedback on job performance and applying improvements. all of those are meaningful to banks (and many other companies).
analize and explore what you have done. think about it and see what is useful. free yourself from pigeon holing yourself and your experiences. it's really a matter of taking it from the right perspective.

Punyemas talaga!

We were taught in school to always use a real picture. It shows a bit of class, and it means you're willing to invest on your intentions. Printed pictures tend to fade fast too.

I just want to share this tip that I have read somewhere at monster.com and needs to clarify on something.
"Salutation: It's best to address your letter to a specific person (e.g., "Dear Ms. Jones:"), but use "Dear Hiring Manager," if there's no way to find that out. Use "Dear Search Committee:" if the decision will be made by committee. Avoid stale salutations such as "Dear Sir/Madam:" and "To Whom it May Concern:."
--------------------
I was about to send my application online but I want to properly address the cover letter to specific person. Which person is subjected to "Dear Hiring Manager"? Is it the HR Manager or the Manager that needs a person to fill the position to include in his team?
Is it okay to use "Dear Hiring Manager" since I'm not sure about his name?

in my experience, it is best to know as much as you can about the company & the name of the person who will read the resume & the head of the department where you will most probably be situated.. a little research will go a long way in showing the person hiring that you took the extra effort in knowing about the company.. the cover letter should be addressed to the person hiring in HR copy furnish the department head para impressive.. goodluck!*okay*

^^^ its better for you to have a name. call up the company by phone and ask for a name.
it's usually : "Head Of Marketing", or "Head Of Human Resources" something like "Head Of xxx". it's generic enough. but having a name is much better.

hi abcxyz! i just graduated last oct and there is this job that I recently applied for and I really really want it so bad! i got a call last week and i went for a test and initial interview. and they said that they would call me up next week for my final interview, but until now they havent called. my guy friend on the other hand just went for his test and interview just a few days ago and they already called him up to schedule his final interview for next mon. does that mean that they are not planning on calling me anymore? i feel frustrated and i feel bad because I am actually feeling bitter towards my friend and im so hoping he doesnt do well. oh god i am mean :( cos we are applying for the same position. anyway, just want to ask if i still have a chance? how do u schedule interviews anyway? like is it normal for u to schedule interviews earlier for people who applied later than other people? thanks! :)

call up to follow up. it's not a good idea to make conclusions based on very little data. too much speculation. call them up. prepare a speech, impress them more.

I have a silly problem.
Should my 2x2 ID picture be attached separately to my resume, or should the picture be included in my .doc file, thus already printed in my resume?
Some of my friends do the former, some naman yung latter. Help!
unless asked and required, your picture shouldn't be attached in your resume :) good luck!

Hi all especially abcxyz,
About giving a thank you letter after the interview... Do you think na dapat din magsend ng thank you letter kung exam ang unang procedure nung recruitment?
Thanks

it's a good idea to send one.
make this thank you letter work hard for you. mention in the letter one item that was talked about during the interview, give your opinion on it or say what impressed you about it that makes a sale on yourself.
something like this:
just want to thank you for the interview. our talk has made my interest in working for your company even sharper and more intense. i think the job that is available is something i can do well and one where i can contribute the most to your company.
of special interest to me when we talked was when you said your company is one which has high standards and very demanding. i found that attractive as it means your company believes in excellence and doing its best. i like challenges like those and i think that speaks well of the future of your company.
haha. something like that. i have of course exagerated the tone of the above. if that's not your style of writing, don't follow that style, follow your own style.
but the point is, make your thank you letter more than just a thank you letter. use it also as a way to sell yourself. mention something dicussed in the interview. that will make your thank you letter stand out and the person who interviewed you can be impressed that you remembered something specific.

For programmer position po yun eh.

do you know what written exam this is? is it a technical exam, an IQ exam, pesonality exam? or all of the above?
i don't know how techinical exam are for IT are. i guess you just have to brush up on it. maybe its just the general exam only like IQ or peronality tests only.
if you are worried about the technical exam - what you can do is after the exam send them a CD or DVD of your IT work, like a portfolio to show them how good you are in application.
in the US when you go to an IT job fair, the employers ask for your CD, a portfolio of some sort. they play it, then if they like it, they interview right there and then at the jonb fair. and many get hired. or if you don't have a CD they ask for website they can go to.
i would suggest for IT applicants - that's what you do - develope a CD you can give to employers to show how good you are or put up your own website.

IT companies dito for fresh grads. Ganito ang usual takbo ng screening for programmers
1. IQ Test - general logic test
2. IT Written Test - multiple choice test usually basic programming and IT concepts
3. Technical Test - you will be asked to program either in paper or on a whiteboard in front of a panel. You will also be asked to explain your work.
4. HR-Interview - normal interview
5. Official interview (optional)- sometimes you will be asked to have an interview with a big boss of the company
You might be wondering saan dito papasok yung transcript mo.
For example marunong ka magmandarin

Well it really depends. There was this HR of a big local company that asked if I could bring my projects in college to our next meeting. That is considered as a portfolio, right?
IT companies usually ask for portfolios if you are applying as a web designer or as a graphic artist. But then, the company I mentioned wasn't even an IT company nor was I applying for a web designer job or a graphic artist job. As what I can conclude, it may be that they are looking to see the fresh graduate's actual accomplishments and not just the one written in the resume. But then again, it may be a case to case basis.

^ yep yep. If your position is design or art related talagang kakailanganin ng portofolio.
Pero pag programmer ka im really not sure if its even possible to create one. The most that they will ask you is your thesis which they'll ask you to explain and what you did for the group. Besides that it will all be based on exams exams and more exams :)

some companies look at accomplishments by fresh grads such as applications and thesis works.
While, some also let's you sit the entire day and provides you with an actual programming exercise.
For aspiring developers, you might want to add a summary of qualification in your resume. Sort it out such as programming languages you know, operation systems you can handle, databases etc. But please make sure whatever you place there you really have a deeper understanding to it compared to just someone who can casually write a hello world program.

Hi, guys!
I'm new here at PEx (in terms of posting. I just browse). I hope I can learn and contribute in the discussions here. :)
Anyway, for my first post, let me answer this:
what's the hardest interview question? how to answer it. i'd like to prepare for that if ever hehehe...
The hardest interview questions are the following:
1. Questions not relevant to the job.
- What cartoon character would you be? (unless applying for Walt Disney or the likes)
- What do you think are the contents of my pocket? (unless applying for manghuhula or something similar in nature)
- What is your favorite color and why? (This is NOT the way to know the personality of a person)
- And other similar questions kung saan nagpapanggap na psychologist ang interviewer.
- The best way to answer these questions is to combine answers. Tutal pinahihirapan ka na ng interviewer by pretending to be a psychologist, pahirapan mo na rin syang mag-analyze. Seriously.
2. Questions you are trying to wing an answer by lying.
- If you don't know the answer, say so. Anyway, interview questions should be about YOU. So you should know yourself. ;) If you have limited experience, then tell the interviewer. Anyway, the interviewer should have known that already by reading your resume (new grad or from different industry).
- If you are asked with theoretical questions, think again about applying for the company. Baka hindi marunong yung interviewer mo. Your personal theories doesn't really tell us what you CAN do. It just shows us that you can think. If we want to know if you can think, we'll administer a proper test or simulation.
3. Questions by an untrained interviewer.
- You'll know if the interviewer is untrained if s/he is giving you a difficult time. Studies have shown that making the interview environment difficult makes candidates withhold vital information due to fear or anxiety. If faced by such an interviewer, the best move would be to reconsider applying for this company. Start looking for another company. Why? Because it shows that the company doesn't invest in it's people to make sure it gets the best.
Just remember that interviews are for your personal experience and achievements - meaning it has happened already in your personal past. It a way of finding out HOW you achieved the achievements you wrote in your resume. Testing is a different matter. :)
I hope that helps.

on the portfolio for IT --- it was just my observation that in all the job fairs i have been to the US, almost all of the companies were asking for a copy of a CD/portfolio of applicants. i actually don't know what is in it, but all of them were asking for one.
so, if there is a way that you can translate your skills into a CD/portfolio, it might be worht your while to have one, even if it is not yet the trend in the philippines.

#3, questions by an untrained interviewer is a real bummer. not only untrained ones but also the unprofessional ones. there are interviewers who don't pay too much attention to you, those who keep checking their cellophones for texts and send texts, pre-occupied in chatting, etc.
if anyone encounters these types of interviewers, DON'T WAIT for the questions, give them the answers even if they don't ask for it. in other words, sell yourself. mention the key points on your resume even without being asked.

just want to share my experience on job hunting. I applied to ten companies and none called back except for one. They called because among all other applicants I can speak mandarin and japanese :)
I just want to give an advice to all applicants out there, have a skill no one else has ready before you graduate. Sure being a president of an organization is something but also get a skill that you can actually make money from.
Anyone can get high grades, but not everyone can speak another language fluently besides the typical tagalog and english :) Take my advice

hi.. i'm a fresh grad, and just recently I've experienced my own taste of the job interview fiasco. Just seeking advice on what are the ideal answers are to the following:
1. What do you do on your free time?
-when i was asked this question, my answer went something like this: "Whenever I have free time, I try my best to utilize it by being productive. For instance, I go on learning and improving my skills on video and photo editing." ......but after I said all these, the interviewer put on a straight, blank, reaction-less face then said, "What else? Anything more?" So I answered back by saying, "cooking, singing, etc.. etc.." Then i felt stup!d for answering that. :bop:....At the back of my mind i was thinking, 'What is the freakin answer you wanna hear?' LOL.
2. Why did you choose to study in your school?
My answer to this one was like, "I chose a school that specializes on the course that I'm planning to take. And (insert my school here) is well known for producing high caliber graduates when it comes to engineering, architecture, and IT, so when I got the chance, I did not hesitate to choose (insert my school here).
I am just thinking, what do the interviewers wanna hear on this one??
3. What was your favorite subject back in college? What's the hated/least one?
My answer for the favorite was one of my major subjects, bla bla.. My answer for the hated was: "Actually I have no hated/least favorite subject because I learn a lot from every one that I took. I don't think that the school would put something in our curriculum that is not essential to my learning as a student, that's why bla bla bla.... I even loved the minor ones like humanities and sociologies and enjoyed every single bit of it."
So far that's all that I can remember where I stumbled.. What could I have done otherwise to score high in this interview? Thanks a lot!!
I so badly wanna know the result of this interview...

Just relax and be confident, but this doesn't mean that you have to crack a joke upon being interviewed. Your hr or your employer can ask or discuss funny topics and not you. All you have to do is to smile or laugh with poise. Humorours questions and discussions by your employer is actually testing you about your courtesy and your response to the topic. So, if ever after interview di ka na tinawagan - you know what it means....

Hello. Just want to ask for some pieces of advice from readers/contributors of this thread. I am in my late 20's and I have had about 6 years of work experience. The thing is, my work experiences came from different industries with no clear career path or direction at all as I still am determining where or what my passion is.
I was with the hospitality and travel industry (4 jobs/companies in which i have been nominated for employee of the month in one company and was voted in another), academe (2) and real estate (1). I have also tried putting up a small business but failed. Now I'm trying to start another career from scratch and still contemplating on which industry to start with. I've been passing resumes online to companies in different industries and I've noticed that there are lesser interview invitations and lesser chances of getting hired now compared before (when I was in my early 20's) when I usually get the job that I want or apply to.
My questions are:
1. Do you think my varying experiences with no clear direction has something do with me not getting higher chances of being hired? Do HR people, upon seeing my resume, think that I won't be loyal to any company that's why they don't bother to give me a call?
2. How do I package myself in order to get back on track or how can I use my varying experiences to my advantage and make them feel that I want to stay with them for a long period of time, have a stable job and get promoted in the future since I'm not getting any younger? Do I have to do anything in my resume aside from the usual?
Thanks a lot in advance.*okay*

I was still in my college when I was invited for an interview in this company for a programmer position, though I didn't pass my resume to them. It was a technical interview, the interviewer was the team leader. After 3 hours of technical interview with some written exam I'm confident it went fine and was advice that I will be short listed.
After a week the interviewer e-mailed me for an interview to his boss. It was more like a personal interview. The boss found out that I'm still in college and have a part time job as a programmer but the problem is I'm still 2 months away for my graduation ceremony and I lived in province(cavite). The interview went fine(I thought so) and was advice that I will be contacted after a week for the result...but they didn't.
After that I didn't bother to follow up my application because I'm very busy with my studies and even quit my part time job.
After 2 1/2 months finally I finished my degree and graduated with flying colors.
Question.
1. Should I follow up my application? Because I needed a job and when I was being interviewed I learned that the job was very interesting and challenging.

1. Should I follow up my application? Because I needed a job and when I was being interviewed I learned that the job was very interesting and challenging.
I don't see any reasons why you should not. Go ahead and contact them.
I'm not sure if you still have the contact details of the HR/team leader/boss who interviewed you but when you do try to contact them, remind them first of who you are (i.e., briefly tell your previous interview). Then tell them that you've now finished school and would like to know if the job is still available because you're looking for a job and is considering that position. If in case they tell you that its already filled, ask them if they have similar openings which you might be fit for.
From the looks of your story, you've passed their previous application process only that you weren't available back then and it might be an urgent position. As they say, wala namang mawawala sayo kung susubukan mo.
Good luck to you ;)

Sinabi nya kasi ifoforward na din nya yung application ko dun sa department na gusto nyang paglagyan ko at magexpect daw talaga ko ng tawag that day ot tommorow or next week since holy week na. wala akong nareceive na tawag that day or the day after, then came holy week.

Can someone help me or give me some advice?
The company send me an email last march for an interview pero hindi ako nag confirm. Sa makati yung interview ko dapat. Then this month tinawagan nila ako sa cellphone ko na and they told me that I'll have an interview at sa Laguna na siya. What does it mean?

^ i think it just means that the company you're applying to has many offices. lolz (or maybe they're relocating)
anyhow, i don't think it has anything to do with your application. good luck!

hehe well, getting accepted to the position is one thing, but actually doing your job well is another. You have to be good at what you do, be hardworking, have good communication skills and most importantly work well with people. Something I learned :)

you can say that while you were looking for a job, you spent time studying on your own, pursuing other interests or helping out your parents on something.
make sure you have a well thought out and complete story.

most of the HR in the philippines are ill-trained and highly unprofessional. they say a lot of BS.
just take what they say, promise them the world but do what you want to do, like if a job offer comes along before that one calls, accept it if you like it.
the truth is you get the job if a final offer is actually made. that means a department head or someone actually gives you an offer on position and salary. until then, you need to assume you are still being considered, not yet hired.
BUT, its good to think positive. continue to hope that they will call, but don't stop your world for it. continue your job hunting.

Thanks a lot in advance.*okay*
maybe you should re-write your resume. write it in a way that it highlights your skill sets and achievements that can apply to any job rather than sounding exclusive to a specific function and company. also, you might want to emphasize that having been in a few industries has taught you the flexibility to adapt and operate to new situations.

last year pa ako graduate and almost one year narin akong nagtatrabaho. At kelangan ng Civil service certificate tsaka TOR or other copy of grades.

More on psycho siguro yung tanong na yun.

i'm a fresh graduate who submitted his resume with portfolio 2 months ago to several advertising agencies and i was wondering why i wasnt contacted yet although i knew my works were very creative...
THEN while i was searching for job openings in advertising, there were certain things i saw that made me realize that i typed in the WRONG job objective!
I thought that creative and art director is the same thing because that's what i remember my professor told my class. SO, i was planning on applying for the art director position but ended typing 'interested in being a Creative Director...' which is a higher position and probably requires much experience...
Now, i was wondering if i should submit another resume...
Another thing, because of too much excitement to work in advertising, I forgot to put in where i graduated, but i'm sure it's visible in my organizations' names... HOWEVER, will that (in any way) affect my application negatively?

by all means resubmit your resume with the correct information and write up.
creative director is the head of the creative department. art director is the head of the art department or a group of artists. the art director reports to the creative director. the creative director position is like a division head.
you want to apply as an "artist".

i do not know if its ok or not. different companies have different rules and requirements.
but the fact is - you do not have a choice, right? the fact is you don't have your TOR, there is nothing you can do about it. what you have now is the only thing you can submit. so, worrying about if it will hurt your chances or not is moot and academic.

1) How soon can you start working for us?
2) Why did you leave your company/ why are you leaving your job?
Ano ba tama or pano mo maayos na sasagutin yung question na to.

I already signed the job offer na pero posible kaya na bawiin ng Company A ang job offer pag wala akong nai-provide na certificate of employment or clearance from my previous company? namumrublema ako, i should be feeling happy now kasi nga may job offer na ko, pero more on anxiety yung nararamdaman ko. please enlighten me, maraming salamat po.

30 days notice is legal number of days an employee should stay with current employer before resignation. Most companies (if not all) are aware of this, but some don't apply this, kahit 2 weeks lang pwede na. Check your company policy. If you're in a middle of a project and can't leave right away, di ka pwede lalo na kung urgent ang requirement. They'll consider other candidates.
2) Why did you leave your company/ why are you leaving your job?
Ano ba tama or pano mo maayos na sasagutin yung question na to.
thanks po
There are diplomatic ways on how to say na di ka masaya sa current work. Rule of the thumb, wag siraan ang current employer mo, this will be interpreted as sobra lang mareklamo ang applicant, here are some of the common reasons you can use...
- I'm looking for a career growth (medyo cliche na)
- My compensation is not commensurate with assigned task (make sure lang na mababa talaga yung salary that you will tell them)
- I want to learn new things (if you've been in your work for more than two years..)
- the company was hit by the economic crisis (sana lang totoo)
hope this help

hi
Then after a week tinawagan ako for interview sa branch office nila.
Tatawagan nalang daw kasi i-ba-background investigation pa yung parehong applicants. Pagsinabing "tatawagan lang" Does it mean, wala na akong chance?
--
