I just want to know who are working abroad? Are you satisfied with your work? If given a chance to earn big money here in the Philippines, will you come home? Please share your thoughts here. Thanks

I am satisfied with my work here. Okay naman ang kita. For an ordinary worker, I can buy things that I really like with my salary. Pero if someone in the Phil. will offer me the same pay, sa Pinas na lang ako. Masmasaya sa atin at maraming gimik plus komportable ako kumilos.

What country are you in now, ThePoorMan.
Hmmm... all i can say is that you are right about working here in the Philippines. But you can't find a job that probably would pay you the same as what you are receiving there. Not unless of course if you want to start a business or you get hired as President of a big firm. heheh;)

Hindi pa masiyadong mahirap at walang take home na work. :ladiesman:

Talaga? Most of my friends in the US would like to come home should they be given the chance to earn as much as they are earning there.

Working in a software company in Taiwan at the moment. Very satisfied with salary (I now earn much more than my idiotic ex-boss), accomodations, and working conditions.

Aside from the fact that I'm functionally illiterate (which actually creates its own interesting challenges), life here so far has been good. Its safe, clean, maraming 24 hour establishments . . .

Living abroad appeals to my sense of adventure.

All my brothers and sister are here na kaya dito na rin ako.
We don't have problem with money dahil malakas kumita ang mom ko sa Pinas. Now, everything here is do it yourself. Clean, cook, wash clothes, iron, etc. After a year of hardship, nasanay na rin kaming maging independent. I always go home in the Phil every year or two for a vacation. Comparing things. Kung future's sake ang paguusapan (me or my kids). I will just stay here in the US.

Sabi nga ni NYC_FINEZT. There are lot of opportunities dito. I came here 1989. 1990, I got my own car. 1995, I got my own fully furnished 2 story house (hulugan pa nga lang sa bangko.) Sariling sikap lahat iyan as a single person. No help kay mommy. Can an ordinary worker there buy these things ?

Masmasaya nga lang sa Pinas. Maybe because I feel at ease dahil lahat Pinoy pero as I said, I always go home for a vacation every year or two. Mangingisda, hindi ako nagyayabang ha. Just giving my opinion.

I've been working in Singapore for almost 5 months. This is the first time I work abroad. So far, I like the experience and I'm proud that I can stand on my own even if I'm only 21. ;)

Here are the Pros and Cons of working here..

Pros:
- higher income
- safer
- everything is convenient (at least from where I live. I live near a business district, 3 mins walk from home to work)
- you get a chance to tour a new country and to learn about their culture
- good contacts

Cons:
- high standard of living
- sometimes you might really feel you're all alone especially on your first few weeks/months away from home :(
- boredom really kills me
- away from family/friends
- nowhere to go. since singapore is a really small country, gimik places are really limited, so i take them one at a time. i haven't even toured the whole singapore yet (most ppl say that you can tour the whole country in 5 days)

Its okay ThePoorMan. We are not in a Payabangan forum. Its okay to tell your success here. Because I believe that in every success there is an untold story behind. And that's what we are trying to extract here. I sometimes need somebody to listen to my "small success stories" and that's what I'm here for. I'm ready to listen.

Wends,

I've been curious about Singapore myself. How about cable entertainment? Do they have English channels, HBO, etc. I heard Japan doesn't have HBO.

How is the level of English proficiency? Do you think there would be a need for English Technical Writers there?

What do you do there now?

Yes they do have english channels here. Based on my observation, Its actually more of an English-speaking country rather than a Chinese-speaking one. Only some of those chinese aunties/uncles (old ppl) doesnt know English. Actually, you can find all types of races here in Singapore. I like it here. Its safe and clean ;)

In any case, I'll try to find out if there are openings for Technical Writers here. But I think HK or China might have a bigger need for it than Singapore :D

I'm currently working as a programmer but i'm doing business dev't on the side..

if you have time, go and look through the Singapore PExers' club threads. You can find the list here: Singapore PExers' Club (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/clubs/singapore)

I wouldn't think of working again sa 'pinas lalo pa't dumadaan ang taon eh bumababa ang value ng peso :bigcry: I also believe that working abroad is a matter of luck. Am happy to be one. :)

totally agree with bodiemon, it will be only worth to come home unless a real good governance trully exists.

been away since i was 20 . .and had a chance to work in UK for 2yrs, Singapore for 3 yrs and now living in US for half a year. Working abroad opens up a great opportunities for everything . . big pay, better place and nice people.

For now I only see PH as best spot for a nice vacation . . . other than that . . . ????

Present! Count me in the list of those working abroad. :)

I've been here since 1998 and so far, I've already had three jobs: one related to my field (mass communication) and two are not (hotel industry). Even if I miss my old job back there (teaching in college), I don't think I want to come back. The economy there really sucks. :(

If I were still there, I wouldn't be able to buy my very own computer, have internet connection, and go to different places for vacation. However, even though I'm living comfortably here, I miss my Mom and my friends. :(

i am working in Japan as a programmer. nakaka-ilang balik na ako dito at twice sa Singapore dahil sa mga project assignments ko. pag nandito ako, i earn around 3x my salary there sa Pinas at around 4x ang OT rate ko per hour.

pero if i will have the chance to earn the same there, hindi ko na kelangan mag-trabaho dito. i really miss my family.

masasabi ko na, home is where your family is and there is no place like home talaga.

East Coast here.
I am just an average student during my college days, I dont have any awards or honors at my graduation pero noong nagkatrabaho ako sa Pinas ay pinag-aralan kong mabuti ang papasukan kong trabaho at pinili ko yung konti lang ang may alam.

MAlungkot dito...

Maybe I can contribute something here. Ive had the opportunity to work in the US East Coast, as well as in Pinas (as an expat). So yung salary ko sa US = salary sa Pinas. Eto yung analysis ko:

For sheer gimik and other leisure purposes, as well as how far your money goes, mas OK talaga sa Pilipinas. I have more fun in a week in Pinas than a month in NY.

However I realized that the infrastructure in Pinas is really lousy. Tindi nang traffic! Kalaban ang pulis at gubyerno! I gave it some hard thinking, and my conculusion was the only way that I would choose to work in Pinas rather than the US, even if I had the same salary (P0.5M/month), is:

1) if I lived in a condo in Makati or Ortigas (iwas trapik and lousy roads) AND

2) I would never have to interact with the government (i.e. no taxes, no police) AND

3) I kept all of my money in the US (less volatile currency than peso)

HOWEVER, Pinas would be an ideal place to retire in, because of the following:

1) cheap cheap medical costs

2) cheap cheap leisure activities

3) great weather
