View Full Version : A high salary but you dont enjoy work
Greetings!!
What would you do if you have a high paying job, but the work just sucks and you don't enjoy it anymore? If you leave, the pay wouldn't be as high as the current job.
PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS/SUGGESTIONS.

R. Kiyosaki said something about this, "Do not work for money."
Look for a job where you can learn skills that will fit in your overall financial plan. Skills that you can use when eventually you decide to build your own business.
Even if you decide to be an employee all your life, the valuable skills you acquire will help you land in a higher paying job.
Ofcourse, this is easier said than done. The key here my friend is endurance. :)

Kramer: I'm thinking of transferring to a lower paying, less pressured work. At the same time, I will study MBA. Do you think this would help me out?
Thanks.

Masteral degree is generally a plus factor but not always necessary.
There are a lot of very successful businessmen who didn't even have a college degree.
What's important eli is that you set a goal then make a plan. Try to visualize yourself 10 or 20 years from now. Do you see yourself as an owner of a company or a high ranking official in a large corporation.
With this, you can easily evaluate if your moves adhere to your plan, which will eventually help you in achieving your goal. :D

Well it goes the same for me. I've been with this company for 4 months already but I still don't get the "feel" yet. I transferred here bcoz I was bored with the one I had before this (besides, this offered a higher salary and good benefits). Look now, I ended up with the same thing. I suggest that you stick it our first (just like I'm doing). You don't want to end up in a much worse company same as I did.
Do other things as well in order to divert those negative feelings that you're having. If you still feel the same, then the door is open. Good luck!:)

Right now, Im kinda like in the same predicament.
I hold to the principle that "if you enjoy what you're doing, it isn't work at all."
So right now, Im seriously thinking of finding a better job. The pay may not be better, but i hope to develop my other skills, and that i hope it would be in a more positive environment.
Nakaka-dismaya ngayon eh.
val0918 - email me. ill tell you there. :) email is: the_investor@onebox.com
GOwin - i DON'T enjoy a bit of my work.. darn.. grabe :(

Remember, money is means to an end. Kung hindi ka masaya sa work mo, does the money that you earn enable you to do the things that make you happy?
My suggestion, and this is what Im doing right now: work hard to earn money, save the money to start a business.
BTW, R Kiyosaki daw is a SHAMAN.. Ive read most of his books and actually enjoyed the first. Pero here's (http://www.johntreed.com/Kiyosaki.html) an analysis by John T Reed.
From hindsight, the Rich Dad books should be considered just motivational, and not a roadmap to riches.

Even if you don't earn much, one should consider the working conditions and not just for the money. Higher salary nga, bugbog ka naman sa trabaho. I'd rather choose a meager salary, as long as I will still have quality time for my life.

Well, if you think about it, TIME COSTS MONEY. Money will buy you time..
Unless of course mga gimiks mo do not cost any money at all.. dabest nga yun.

Your career, your life, your choice.
If you have only been with the company for 4 months, give it a full year. The work might grow on you. You also have the option of sitting down with your boss and discussing how the job might be made more appealing. If you leave for a new job every few months, that does not help you establish business credibility. In spite of the pay, you say the "other job" is better. Is it better simply because it isn't the job you are in right now? What would happen if you go to the lower paying job and it turns out to be just as bad as the one you have now (albeit for different reasons)? It is only fair to yourself and to your employer that you try to work through the issues rather than run away from them.
If you are going to take an MBA, only go after you have had at least 2-5 years of work experience after college. Going too early will be a waste of your time and money. Think long and hard, an MBA is a serious commitment. If you are going to work and study, see if you can get the company to sponsor you.
Hope that helps.
May Angels smile upon you,
Joe

A_OK: per month
Whipcheck: I'm in the IT industry. Mag-eenjoy ka ba kung naka-tutok ka sa computer mo buong araw? Minsan pati gabi? At lalong lalo na, on weekends?? :(
Dati enjoy, kasi di pa ganun ka-subsob sa computer eh. Ngayon todo na talaga.

Anong klaseng working conditions naman meron that would make you accept a P10k less salary per month?
Personally, di ko ata kaya na tumanggap nang mas maliit na sweldo. Kelangan pataas ng pataas hehe. P120k/yr din yun. Parang sweldo na nang isang non-IT.
Pero siguro worth it naman if you spend your free time on an MBA. Gagamitin mo ba yun sa sariling negosyo, or just so you can have additional 'pogi points' sa resume mo?

eli:
Same here, naka-tutok din sa computer buong araw... minsan even at nights. When I go out on jobs, minimum 12 hrs a day and there were even bad times na 24 hrs! When I work walang weekends, straight for 4 weeks. Not to mention the working conditions and location. Sabi nga I work hard for the money .... then I enjoy it!!!!!
I feel the same as you do but my work brings food to the family table plus gastos. Not easy to get a job that will pay the same or more ....but I'm on the look out. I suggest you do the same. Tiis muna sa present work while you look for a new one.;)

I used to have the same dilemma as yours...high pay but i don't like the job...not only like...actually it's more on I HATE THE JOB...
But i sticked it out for 1 year before i decided to quit...i used to earn a lot, but i spent and go out on gimmicks a lot too, to compensate for the hardwork...now, i'm working for my own and i love what i'm doing, also i have more quality time...
It's true that you should do something that you like to do best...but not all people has the luxury to do that especially at times like this...
Try to stick it out for a year and see from there if you still like it or not...not all people are lucky enough to be given the opportunity to be given a high salary...if after a year and you still don't like it, then quit.
