Hello people :)
We are working on a project to be submitted to the u.n., it aims to create a sustainable reforestation project in bataan near mount samat. The requirements are it should stand on the three legs of sustainability (economic, cultural, and environmental).
We plan to put a forest and a community together, the community should benefit from the forest (by timed harvesting of trees) and the forest should be nurtured by the community. Kailangan sustanable yung pagkadesign so growth issues are there like what if man becomes greedy one day putulin nila lahat ng puno diba or umalis sila sa community or dumami anak nila and wala na matirhan dun or mamatay yung ground cover kase madami namamasyal. The area is around 20,000-50,000 hectares.
PLUS dapat the community should be designed for clean living.
Hindi pa nagagawa and ganitong set up sa buong mundo so we dont actually know how to set them up (like babayaran ba yung mga forest planters or free housing lang or bawal manganak mga forest people sex lang-haha).
Nways if you have any ideas, the forum is open, the u.n. is listening to us :)

wow very very nice project :) iniisip ko dapat may alternative source of living yung mga farmers muna bago isabak sa pag plant nang trees. kahit piggering maliit sort like that.
sa amin naman, ambisyoso masyado hehe. make the us market the milking cow of pinas tapos e share sa mga poor pinoy families thru libreng pang ospital, edukasyon at pabahay at marami pang iba. ambisyoso rin kami no? :glee: :glee: :glee:
who knows baka someday, malaki pa yung kita thru stock market than pinapadalang remittances nang mga hero nating ofw. hehe libre naman mag dream d ba? lubuslubusin ko na :glee:

All of us can help by contibuting ideas kahit sobrang out of this world, malay naten possible. We need ideas on how to make a community work for the people and the environment.
Actually, we are looking for a way to have the farmers earn some money habang hindi pa naggrow yung trees. The piggery might work but it has to be run in an environmentally friendly way. Is anyone here familiar with how piggeries are run? Anu kinakain ng mga baboy? Is there a way para forest products ang kainin ng baboy?
When an ecocommunity is designed kailangan icount yung inflow at outflow ng materials dun sa community to make sure na nagamit ng mabuti lahat ng flows, for example pwede gamitin biomass yung ebak ng baboy for cooking and lighting ng community, but in return, san kukuha ng kakainin yung mga baboy.
An eco-community is very easy kung walang man, nature does it all the time.
But pag may man na, dun may problema how to integrate man para least impact mafefeel ng environment.
In the same way, kung forest lang, that's very easy tanimtanim leave it alone to grow. BUT how to subject a forest to market forces and make it profitable while at the same time hindi ikakamatay nung forest, that's the question. Basta post lang ng ideas :)

This idea needs some thinking through.
Why don't you consider planting bamboo (kawayan) in some places? The reason is that the EU and the US are now moving toward requiring a certain percentage (30% I think) of their total paper consumption to consist of recycled materials. In recycling paper, fresh (new) pulp is added for strength. Apparently, bamboo pulp has longer fibers and is superior to wood as a binding agent when mixed with old paper in recycling. So there is your justification for demand for bamboo.
Bamboo also grows faster than trees, so you can harvest earlier. You just have to figure out how to sell the stuff and how to get it cheaply to the nearest port.

I like your idea. But, do you think you could come up with a list of problems first? We can brainstorm with that.
Btw, have you guys heard of a tree farm?

i'm willing to help....
pero first is the community closed to the rest of the world like dun lang sila dapat focuse sa tree farming? sino-sinu sila? indigenous people? i think medyo mahirap kahit sa tao pa lang kasi if u now, even the ifugaos are trying to be modernized na and napapabayaan na nga ang rice terraces.

Do you guys already have a website for your project? Where can we get additional information about it.

Hindi pa nga nagagawa ito because sustainable agriculture is just a goal. There is no specific methods of farming nor types of products to be grown in order to balance economic, environment and social concerns in moving towards the systems which can make us attain a desirable quality of life on Earth.
This is just a dream in the most industrialized countries in the world since the 'sustainable farmers " are competing with the large scale corporate agriculture.
Let us make that dream a reality in the Phils.
For a start, I suggest that planting can be done by volunteers while maintenance of the forest can be done by those who will join the community.
Volunteering can be made possible thru government and schools. Forestration i.e. that is planting the seeds which will grow into trees can be done by students who should be sent for community service as a part of curriculum credit. Government employees can be tasked to render services too at least several hours a year.

Pigs can be fed with ipil ipil leaves. The ipil-ipil trees dabble also as fence for areas that need enclosures.
In some parts of Luzon, roots crops such as camotes including the leaves are supplements for commercial feeds.
The farmers can also plant crops which thrive best under or in between trees. Some of these are mongo, coffee beans and other short-lived- easy- to -grow farm products.

hi kelboinks, ill forward your qualifications to our head, do have an email addy so i cud get in touch with you? nakadisable yata yung reply receiver ng private messages mo
we are an offshoot ksi of the department of energy doing project based stuff on the side, the project members are offered employment on a project basis but the pay is ok naman since di ka nakatali sa office, mail everything by net, show up there once a week and no tax, im a fresh grad and since wala ako ginagawa for the summer, my work starts in june so in the meantime i want to help out here
we dont have a website re. this yet, its a prefesibility study pa at this point, after this us donor agencies will look at it and see if there's some worthy ideas then they fund a full scale feasibility paper, complete with expat white haired consultants-pag natapos na, saka isusubmit sa un for approval
but it might be a good idea to post progress on the web
to anyone interested you can check out un global environment facility website our project is under operational facility 12
btw, yung lugar pala sa may foothills ng mount samat in bataan, yung community dun di pa alam if itratransplant or manghihiram ng manpower sa mga surrounding towns
