While at that, note that (most of?) the topics here are not only foreign, but American, almost exclusively Hollywood.

The thing about our local actors/actresses is that they're all stereotypes. They just stick to the theme that works for them. I think they should experiment more often, para hindi naman nakaka-bore.

The weakness of our movie industry and the actors and actresses we have is that too much is patterned on what Hollywood and the rest of the U.S. does rather than concentrating on developing our own brand of film. That's economics though since the the most successful movies are foreign - witness the immense success of Titanic and many of the money making local productions are rip-offs and parodies of foreign movies.

Jack is right on the money. It's sad but up to now, many Filipinos possess this colonial mentality; they think ANYTHING local is ALWAYS going to be inferior vs. the imported brand. It saddens me that some people are so embarrassed and would rather be caught dead than to admit watching a Tagalog movie. They are so quick to generalize that ALL local talents are "baduy" and are not even worth giving a chance. I think it is society's fault for promoting and condoning such behavior. Also, sometimes, it's the parents' fault for bringing up such elitist children.

Re: why foreign actors may be seen as "better" than locals:
Although I know that there are definitely some real Pinoy talents out there like Jolina for instance, I must admit that the quality of Filipino actors is steadily declining. Producers nowadays bank solely on physical beauty instead of real acting skills to draw attention to their projects. Come on now, just try counting how many models-turned-actors are in the business at this very moment. They book these people even though it is so obvious they can't act for sh**!!!
On the other hand, foreign actors are sometimes better because since the competition in the US for actors is SO fierce, there is absolutely no choice for producers but to hire the best of the best. In other words, they pick their talents very carefully and not just hire any good looking shmoe off the street.
Besides, networks pay BIG bucks for their talent..Did you know that each cast member of the sitcom FRIENDS earns $750,000.00 PER episode? If the networks are going to pay the actors that much money, they better be damn worth it, don't you think?
Mind you, I may seem like I'm being hypocritical especially after what I said in my previous post, but I'm just speaking the truth. Unlike other people, I do not deny that I watch Filipino movies and shows. In fact, I'll admit that I actually enjoy a lot of them. =) But the hard fact is, the "quality control" for actors is much more stricter in the US.
Just a side note: It's really funny...I noticed... Why is it that Filipinos living in the Philippines always make fun of local entertainment yet people who live elsewhere (i.e. the US or what-not), absolutely CRAVE fil-entertainment? Hahaha, as the saying goes, "The grass is always greener on the other side." I guess that's life!

What's wrong with them??? Well, in my own opinion... some of them just don't act too good. In other words... they suck. Our very own actors here in the Philippines are so incompetitive, except for some veteran actors. They just act and that's it, and then they get paid. What a nice way to waste money on actors that don't know how to act, and all they do is "pa-cute". It's so annoying na http://www.pinoyexchange.com/grrr.gif That's what's wrong with them. :D
So, if I were to choose, I'd choose foreign actors and actresses. Kase they act more better and they have a sense of style. They also have good breeding, pero yung sa atin naman, parang mga walang pinag-aralan. Parang taga-squatters.
Yung mga actors na may good breeding, yun na yung mga veteran actors or if not naman mga amatuer pero ok naman sila. And Freak is right about what he said. That Teatro Tomasino could do better than these trying hard actors na walang ibubuga. I watched Teatro Tomasino last year and they were good.
They can act and express theirselves, unlike some actors that we have, they can't do it. All they do is pa-cute and whatever. Some of them just suck. Get another job!~!!
