i havent seen it yet, but its pretty much interesting. i mean digging deeper into the inner workings of a psychic or a clairvoyant.
although, the come-ons of course are the teen cast members, and yes, they may just end up as another teenybopper scream-wannabe.

I guess that just had too much gruesome scenes... until the end talaga... hehehe

the story had potential but it all ended up coming off like an ordinary slasher flick... only this time, the serial killer is Death himself... not scary enuff, didn't have any cute chicks and it was way too predictable...

Final Destination- 2 out of 5

ako, i liked it. i think it's better than the common serial killer thingies. this time, you wouldn't have to figure out who killed who. it's more of a mind game abt why things are happening and how things should be. also, i kinda liked the message na everyone's lives is pre-determined. it's beginning and it's end is all carefully planned. in other words, if it's your time, then you're a gone-r.

ps. the poster in way cool. anyone know where i can get one? :)

Awesome movie!!! And it's no slasher flick, not in the least bit! And most of all, it ain't like any other teen i-know-what-crap-you-did film. You have to watch it and see the difference....

/me wonders why most posts about this film are negative. oh well.

i just watched this movie and in my opinion it's one of the best suspense movie i've watched in a long long long long time.

i can't understand how it can be a slasher flick and how it can be predictable... when i read the negative posts here i got kinda discouraged a bit but not enough to not watch it but i'm glad i personally liked it. i mean there's nothing predictable the way terry died... whew.. that was was wow... as in 0.1 second before that happend nobody knew it was going to happen... and hey most have seen the trailer... the explosion in the house... hmmm... i though that was the cause of death... but then... just watch... and the train scene in the trailer... hah.. ang dami pang nangyari... yung trailer nga may kasamang mga clips of the movie goers na nagugulat.. akala ko arte lang yun... susmaryosep... totoo pala... talagang nakakagulat...

oh yah its kadiri.. its gory.. but then it's supposed to be that way hehe... for me one of the best thing in watching a movie is for it to live up to it's expectations.. i expected suspense... and i got it.

Kinda like the PC game "The Incredible Machine." They tried to make it too elaborate that it ended up being stupid.

Sabi nga ng kaibigan ko, maganda daw sana siya, e. Kaya lang, maling genre. Comedy dapat, hindi horror.

Pero ang ganda nung girl. Wala lang.

to all those who watched the movie and didnt like it, i doubt if you really watched it. maybe u didnt understand the plot... http://www.pinoyexchange.com/evil.gif

well, its an awesome movie. suspense not in the tradition of scream, the sixth sense or the blair witch project. it's a must see movie. great plot, great ideas although very gruesome scenes. and also, as said earlier, not much bankable stars in the cast. (well, devon sawa and that bading in dawson's creek, plus, hey remember stiffler in american pie? as in stiffler's mom? no, not the mom, but stiffler himself's in this movie. he's still dumb as usual!)

anyway, it's a great flick, great suspense alternative. u guys should watch it. there's more to it than you know. start pa lang ng movie, eerie na.

all u guys out there, didn't u know The Design, The Pattern? mwa ha ha ha ha!

umm...guys...

there's no story... i think they failed to explain a lot of things like how come the main actor(forgot his name na) had the ability to see into the future or whatever... the whole movie was just a suspense trip, and the only thing that amused me was how they were able to come up with highly creative and improbable ways to kill the characters...

that's one of the worst endings iv ever seen, ang dami pang flaws ng whole movie, like diba towards the ending meron pang "after 6 months...", i have a question, so ano yun, were they successful in avoiding death during those 6 months? and then out of nowhere there it is again? ang labo eh... and if i was able to predict a plane explosion that saved my life, i would NEVER even think of setting foot on one again..

yeah yeah, i was able to get their message that we don't know when we're gonna die eventually, but the idea of trying to avoid as in literally avoid it was kind of lame...

it left me thinking i should have spent my 50 bucks on something else...

and one other thing.. screenplay of the movie was co written by james wong (who also directed)... he's one of the writers in X-files...

alv: hay bossing naman.. it's a suspense flick.. movies like that don't delve into character development and all that **** ... hehehe.. suspense yan.. so expect just that... if you're looking for story or character nood ka cider house rules.. or gods and monsters... hehehe.. ayun well developed ang characters... and the 6 months.. i mean gosh wala lang.. di lang time pa nila after six months. di naman nila puedeng ipalabas ang lahat nang nangyari sa kanila nung six months bec there's nothing significant to relate.. it's just that nagkataon na may nangyari after 6 months..

denslim: Not only did James Wong direct the movie, but the great tandem of GLEN MORGAN and JAMES WONG wrote it! Yup, these are the dudes who were responsible for great X-Files episodes way back Season 1 to 4 (or 5 I'm not sure)!

Another comment on the movie: Not only was it entertaining and amusing, but it also sort of let's you wonder and realize stuff. Well, it isn't really a thought-provoking, deep-thinking thing, but it just lets you know how true the movie's idea is. After watching it I can't help but chuckle and nod in agreement. Really awesome film.

ALVS: Well since you've been trying to analyze and make sense of the movie, maybe it would help if you imagine Death as a kind of a person: a peachy-keeny, cheerful, happy-go-lucky person, if you may. Now would it be surprising if Death sort of allowed 6 months before attempting to take the lead character's life again? You know, give him a little time to relax and forget about his experiences a little if possible, make him confident and stuff. Why not, right?

Movies like these aren't made to explain everything to you. If that was the case, then it would suck. You have to use your imagination sometimes and activate some of that willing suspension of disbelief, if you catch my drift.

Oh well. I guess I just read too much Sandman comics. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/lol.gif

flyderman: Chief, for the first time, I have to disagree with you a bit. :)

I saw the poster and thought it was cool. I saw the trailer and it had promise. My friends, who watched it before I did, said that it was nice. I watched it, and I was disappointed.

Well, not entirely. For the first 30 minutes of the film, the movie was progressing rather nicely. Until Terry got run over by the bus, and then the movie started to suck.

How do I say this? There's nothing exciting about already anticipating what would happen to the characters, especially the manner of death. As a suspense/horror flick, it does well for the first 30 minutes of the film, and then it spins off into a half baked philosophical discussion on death.

It does, however, provide an interesting insight on death. And that's probably what makes it slightly okay to watch.

ALvs^
Jul 4, 2000, 06:55 PM
flyderman & denslim: i'm saying that the movie had the right idea, but parang ang daming flaws eh, and yung flaws nya are the kind that wala talagang maiisip na answer, para bang sumobra naman yung part na you have to tie all the loose ends up by yourself... as yoshi said, it started to suck after a while dahil predictable na nga sha...

hmmm...case in point... the sixth sense... there's a movie with good character development, story, and it sure was full of suspense...

suspense alone doesn't make a good movie...

Misa Hayase
Jul 4, 2000, 09:55 PM
Denslim: yeah...Rube Goldberg-ian nga yung cause of deaths.... I thought that was quite brilliant.

The movie had a lot of loose ends nga, pero i had fun watching it because of those death scenes, heh-heh. And re: about terry dying...lol, super unpredictable talaga yung sa kanya, short and sweet! Pinaka predictable yata, pati cause of death, is the death of that guy na parating nagbabike. =)

Yoshi: At last, we disagreed on something, chief! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/lol.gif

Well, actually, the suspense isn't the main reason why I loved the movie (but it was still superb nonetheless). It's really more on how I saw the movie as a whole. The fact that it tells about something different, and that the theme is really just simple, a stares-at-you-right-in-the-face-but-too-plain-to-notice kind, plus the storytelling, basically what made it a good film for me. Yep, there might be flaws in it, but I was able to take them and compensate rather easily.

And of course I also loved the Rude Goldberg-esqe/Incredible Machine demise of the characters. ;)

the movie's great! http://www.pinoyexchange.com/smokin.gif it made you really think about life...na kahit mga simpleng bagay lang, in the bathroom, pwede nang maging cause ng death mo...enewiez i watched the movie not for the actors, the're just one factor that makes the movie ok. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/boom.gif pero what counts is the plot. its not another ordinary slasher flick...when you look at it, parang each one of us has his own time talga, and if u happen to cheat death, by and by, ikaw na talga coz time mo na...u know? eneweiz...if some didn't like it...bahala kyo...iba iba naman tayo ng taste in movies. depends on what we're feeling. http://www.pinoyexchange.com/girl.gif

i watched the movie a day after i watched scream 3 and i have to say that scream 3 pales in comparison, although some may say that it's not saying much. i agree with yoshi, the first 30-so minutes were good. i even got goosebumps in the scene where they saw the plane explode :p after that, the plot becomes a bit predictable, and perhaps a little contrived. trying too hard to pin the crimes to the main actor is just plain lame, ehem: "oh no the house is going to explode. gotta run for my life and ignore my biker friend who saw the whole thing so i could look guilty???" ridiculous.

the movie as a whole is okay, and i agree that it makes you think about things.

if you're the type that go out there to simply have a good time in the theatres then u shouldn't miss out on this one. in the tradition of the shouting-with-the-crowd experience of scream, i know..., urban legend, and sixth sense does final destination emerge from. the movie makes u think and after some thinking, u realize that there are many holes in the story. many good points were already raised at the beginning of the forum. they made it clear that death is so powerful..but my opinion on that matter is that if death really is so powerful then it would've gotten them at the first instance. there wouldn't have been some sort of seating arrangement death..they explained it as supernatural but yet portray it in a sort of human serial killer way..something which can be avoided with caution.

anyway, it's a great experience just watching it a theatre and i wouldn't have missed it. some scenes just catch u off-guard u start laughing already..and it's also funny how Kerr Smith is acting so macho..something very unusual from his regular acting routine

im just bumping this thread coz theyre showing FINAL DESTINATION on HBO this saturday i think....

now my opinions on it...

i loved the movie, i think the concept was great...very x-files material. the first two "murders" were strong, it opened the door to the greatness of the movie, but it quickly wore off. towards the end, i found the way people died as a tad too ludicrous for me to believe. overall, the movie was a notch above the other teen flicks ive seen (recall another devon sawa film, idle hands , now that was trash...)

hehe. sabay pala natin pinanood. i've always been intrigued by this film. ngayon lang ako nagkaron ng opportunity to see it. medyo mixed yung feelings ko...

on the one hand, i think the concept is really intriguing...the team of james wong and glen morgan did not disappoint as far as the writing is concerned. most people here know them from the x-files...but i love their work on that other chris carter series, millennium.

what i have trouble with (and this is a really bad pun) is the execution. i suppose the filmmakers wanted it to feel like a slasher flick (which were popular when this was released) but somehow, it fell somewhere between a classic slasher film and an intellectual discourse on life and death. in other words, i thought it tried too hard to be one or the other and in the end, it was neither.

just my two cents...i'd watch it again, though, just to see that bus death scene. i never saw that coming!

To use a 'Fangoria' term, there were several cool kills in this movie -- including the first a) hanging, second a) stabbing and the girl who gets run over by a bus. (To those who haven't watched the movie, go see it and scream yourself silly.)

Nope, definitely not a slasher flick. Unfortunately, it had a very weak ending (how about a part 2?) and the deaths started to get really unimaginative in the end. Nuff said.

raven23
Apr 13, 2002, 05:08 AM
Agree with the weak ending, parang, obvious fodder for a sequel.

I also love the bus death scene -- too bad they cut it on HBO. If you saw it on theatre or watch it on video, I bet you'll see it in full g(l)ory.

Also, while the story was intriguing, I think it'd have been interesting if the filmmakers downplayed the gore & shock value, and made the suspense more subtle -- ala, Sixth Sense. Wow.

hat_tr1ck
Apr 17, 2002, 04:13 AM
The truth is, the sequel's already under production and according to those behind the movie, a few surprising people will die and you'll be shocked about who lives and who dies.

You guys wanna know what happened to Devon Sawa and Ali Larter's characters after the first film ended?

Well, she has committed herself to a padded cell to stay safe. Devon Sawa was killed because she wasn't watching his back. It was a case of "You watch my back, I'll watch yours" and she basically fell asleep at the wheel and death got to him. Now, she's committed herself for her own protection because she feels guilty.

well, i liked the movie.. its scary.. not scary na kase meron ghost or killer or something. kase diba nagka-premonition sya (devon) about the pagsabog ng plane, parang na-cheat yung death nila and ngayon kailangan pa rin nila mamatay so parang hinahabol sila ng death. nakakatakot na baka pwede mangyari diba.

but then, gusto ko ng sequel, kase diba buhay sa ending yung dalawa (i forgot their names) kumbaga nag-skip na naman sa kanila yung death e iikutan pa rin sila.
