ambergis is an excretion from toothed whales, like the sperm whale, consisting of partly-digested fish bones and squid shells. this is often a sign of illness in the cetacean. ambergis is a spongy, foul-smelling mass often the color of dried wheat bread. it used to be worth its weight in gold. merchants drop a few grains of it into their wine for flavoring. but its chief use was in making first-rate perfume and scented candles. ;)

Ambergris - a fancy term for whale crap. It's actually a waxy grayish substance, passed out by sick whales. Usually found floating on the ocean. Used in perfume making, something like preventing the rate of evaporation (have to look this up again).
anyway, Ambergris Solutions Inc. is a call center in ortigas. somewhat new but that's all I know...
Makes me wonder why a company would name itself after crap (even if ambergris is pretty expensive).

 actually- Ambergris is used a a fixative in perfume preparations (fixative- something that would make the scent stay)
BTW:
Ambergris Solitions is a provider of customer interaction solutions offering voice, e-mail and web chat outsourcing services.

I think it's a relatively new call center located across the Podium... in fact, so new that their job application process is so disorganized.
Anyway, I saw their ad in the Classifieds a few weeks ago. I learned that they had a job opening for analysts so I went there at around 6pm after work. After browsing my CV, the receptionist asked me to come back at 11pm (later in the evening of the same day) for an interview. So I went back at the said time but I was interviewed at past 1am na. Gusto ko na nga sanang umalis dahil I had work the following day. Ang weird pa nun, ni hindi nila alam na may opening pala sila for analysts. I had to show them the ad clipping. And the guy who interviewed me... jeez, he didn't know what to ask because he was a call center agent and absolutely knew nothing about market and financial analysis. He was nice, though. Anyway, he asked me to wait until 3am for my 2nd interview, but he had to check with an officer daw kung may opening nga para sa posisyon na inaaplyan ko. I didn't think twice. Umalis na 'ko.
By the way, I also heard other applicants' complaints. One was applying as a Training Officer. Kung kani-kaninong call center agents daw siya pinagpasahan sa interview. Madalas nga rin hindi alam kung ano ang itatanong sa mga non-CCA applicants. Others complained about the late interview sked.
Last Sunday, they posted the very same ad.

I knew someone who applied for internship there kasi he called them and they said they accept interns. Ininterview siya and then was asked to start working full time. Tapos nag-explain yung kaibigan ko na internship ang habol niya at naka-specify sa resume at cover letter niya. Then sinabi sa kanya na di sila nagtatanggap ng interns. Ang labo nila. Very messed up ang HR staff nila.

Ambergris is in Discovery Suites in Ortigas.
It was named as such because the boss or CEO of the company had the novel "Moby ****" as a favorite.
Their office is great in comparison with the other call centers.
They make outbound calls, from last that I know of, I don't know if they have other clients now.
Starting pay ranges from 11,500 to 13,000
I don't how screwed up their business is, what I do know is that their operations schedule was delayed this year because of fiscal problems.

uy! sorry! may thread na pala sa Ambergris!... BAD BAD BAD EXPERIENCE! Im not bitter though... ok lang! IM FINALLY OUT!
they made me wait for what? FOREVER? just for them to RE- EVALUATE MY PERFORMANCE! JEEEEZ! EVEN OUR TRAINER ADMITTED to us that HR is MESSED UP! they told me they would call me up for the results but... I still made the call!
they lost our resume, our bank documents!... I got a REJECT letter when in fact... IM ALREADY EMPLOYED! I questioned them regarding the matter and guess what? WHAT A LAME EXCUSE THEY GAVE ME!! baka daw nag halo ang ACCEPTED APPLICANTS SA DENIED! I mean... in a pile of thousands of applicants per month?
MAGKAHALO ANG TANGGAP SA HINDI TANGGAP? uhm... so, since di nila malaman ang tanggap at di tanggap sa mga pile na yun... lahat pinadalhan ng REGRETS letter?!
they lost OUR resume's!...
and what specific part of the OFFICE SHOULD THE RESUME'S BE PLACED? HRD right? why would they loose the applicant's resume?! I was already training there... when this number keeps on calling me.... at first I wasnt able to attend to the call... then I returned the call just to hear this " thank u 4 calling AMBERGRIS SOLUTION... then, the HR there wants us to report for an interview... huh?!
then a few days after... i got the REGRETS e-mail....

they are asking me for an ID.... eh trainee pa lang naman ako! wala namang binigay na id... nagtatalo sila ng trainer ko kung kailangan pa ang sa facilities.... sabi ng isa... di na kailangan.. yung isa... kailangan naman daw.

Hello there!

Teka muna - ako ambergris-er!
Ok naman experience ko . Boyish chick, super negative naman ng post mo. Hope you were able to settle differences, or ***** positve person lang talaga ako.
I heard na super gulong gulo ang HR nila kasi there was this blonde lady na nag handle ng HR before pero di naman nya forte yon. Then short staff pa sila, part of growth naman ***** yon. Wala na si blondie, iba na nag-hahandle ng head of HR nila so better process naman daw. Daming imprvements sabi ng Manager ko.
As far as I know - all inbound lang sila - customer srvc and inbound sales. They tried outbound pero di nila focus yon so na-abolish yung outbound accounts. The clients are all U.S> based and all Fortune 100 (wow, I listened to my orientation!)
2 years old na sila. no fiscal problems naman kasi stable naman ang financial backing nila - big name pinoys, old rich pinoys plus some US fuding pa ata.
Company is super big call center - 1200 employees na daw sila. Ok naman my account, lvoe my team and ok naman my team leader. Very supportive. Management - ah, no comment, siyempre CSR lang ako, no talk naman to upper management. Pero from what I heard they have coffee talks with the CEO so chance mo yon makita si big-wig. Then they also have HR Loung - parang open forum with HR. Tapos Friday treats for all- kung may financial problems eh di dapat na-abolish na to. Pero they are expanding sobra sobra - *** na nga minsan ma-upuan. Opening sila 2 more sites yata by January.
Damo ko news....kasi striving agent ako. Maybe someday to be Team leader din sana ako. sorry sa mga na-bad experience pero sana you keep an open mind anywhere you go. Ganon lang talaga ang life. Remain positive lagi. JOb naman natin yon diba as CSR's.
Apply na kayo!!!

To Jeremy and the recruitment group -
Are you hiring everyday? A friend is asking and it seems may training classes all the time. Please detail exactly what would make one pass an interview (aside from someone like me!)
So that my friends can refer to it. Also do you have a classifieds posting in this site?

Oct 6, 2003, 05:41 PM
Hi taylorwilson and ChingChiNi,
Thank you for showing your interest in working with Ambergris!
Yes, Ambergris is currently in it's expansion phase and we are on the lookout for qualified (at the same time, really COOL!) individuals to be a part of our fast-growing organization! We have several openings for Customer Interaction Associates, Inbound Sales Associates, Team Captains, Assistant Operations Managers, Operations Managers, Recruitment Associates, Trainers, Accent Trainers and HR Assistants.
All you really have to do is submit your resume` online to jeremy.angulo@asiemail.com, recruitment@asiemail.com or, for faster results, visit our office at: 31/F, Discovery Centre, 25 ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center Pasig City for an immediate initial screening. Make sure to bring an updated resume` with you.
As I've mentioned earlier, we are growing at a very fast rate, and come November, we will start hiring for our new call center facilities in Raffles Bldg. Ortigas and our biggest facility right in the heart of the Madrigal Business Park in Alabang. We are looking forward to hiring close to 800 people for various positions, for both facilities.
If you feel you've got the communication, the inter-personal and the analytical skills, then passing the interviews is a piece of cake! A lot of positive attitude helps as well!
The Ambergris revolution is in full swing, and we want YOU to be a part of it!
Hope to see you guys soon!

Hi joey_sixdigit,
Currently, Ambergris' outsourced services would include Customer Care, Inbound Sales and Market Survey/Research. Once we roll-out operations for our biggest and newest client (telco-related), perhaps, we may just start providing technical support services.
Hope I was of help!

try applying now, although from what i know the expansion will be for the alabang center, try parin i am in a tech account and we're still hiring people pero you better be up for the job because if not you either won't pass the interview who last i heared is now being conducted by the ops group the initial screening is done by HR but the last say would still be by the ops people so try your luck!(if you are currently into sciences mainly computers or engineering and syempre good ENGLISH communication skills and voice projection i don't see why you'd not be hired.)

Hi frenchkisser,
Well, if you successfully hurdle that first screening, then you move on to the next step, which is an interview with the HR Manager. After which, you go through a final interview with the Director for Human Resources, once you get past the HR Manager interview. If all things go well, I'd have no doubts that we'd be seeing you with the team pretty soon!
Anyway, good luck! Hoping to start working with you in the coming weeks

i am from ambergris my handle here says it all.
what to expect? expect a lot
yup as mentioned above good command of the ENGLISH LANGUAGE.(let me just say if you dont have this, i doubt it much if you'd pass the initial screening by HR specially joseph! )
yes we have a thread but unlike peeps from people support and sykes we dont keep it as active.
here in ambergris you wont just enjoy working but love the company as well and when it come's to facilities I believe we have one of the best if not the best!(class A! Hotel type office.)
we have a work force that can we can be proud of, based on what I've seen most of the agents here were graduates of top philippine universities (up,dlsu, ateneo, ust, miriam etch....). If you are looking for a company where you can start a career I can honestly say ambergris is a right choice.

Ako rin mejo nagsawa nang nagtatravel sa Makati coz nagagahol ako sa money and time (I no longer work in Etel but in a center near it), it has already affected my body (again) and I feel that Alabang is closer to my location in Bacoor (by way of Daang Hari) kaya tomorrow I'll try to give Jeremy a call. aynah is kinda predictable na rin minsan especially when she is doing preliminary interview, but she is really good on choosing who will make the cut.
if ever preliminary interview mo palang... usually she asks this:
1.) Can you tell me more about yourself that is not here in your resume?
2.) how did you know about ambergris solutions; what do you know about ambergris solutions
3.) why in a call center?
4.) any expectations?
5.) When can you start?
then she will let you ask any questions you have in mind..
Hope I helped, FYI im not with ambergris solutions hehehehe kasi when they offered me the job, someone made a better offer na... anyway goodluck on your interview and if you make it... KUDOS!:bashful:

Hi,
Sorry for not replying sooner. Anyway, just to answer some inquiries:
pattybee - Yes, currently we would have openings for Operations Managers. We would be expecting graduates of a Bachelor's Degree in Business or any related course, at least 4 years experience in Customer Service/Relations Management, with extensive experience in client relations and client management, knowledge of general accounting and billing procedures, knowledge of personal computer operations and software applications and ability to manage departmental expenditures following budgeted guidelines. They also follow the nightshifts, but of course, with a very flexible work schedule. Days-off would also be very erratic, not necessarily following the normal Saturday and Sunday rest day.
tifosi_1, eis and beefeater - Our Alabang facility will be opening Q1 of 2005. This has been pushed back since we concentrated our efforts on Raffles, and also, since we are prioritizing our other facility in Market! Market!, within the Bonifacio Global City. This will open late Oct of 2004.
Should anyone be interested, we are still hiring Customer Interaction Associates for several of our programs. If you are a graduate of any 4-year course, with EXCELLENT communication skills in English, both oral and written, with a very high level of customer service and/or sales orientation, proficient in various computer applications (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and willing to work shifts, then we want YOU! Submit your comprehensive CV to: jeremy.angulo@ambergrissolutions.com. You may also personally handcarry it to our main office at: 31F, Discovery Centre, 25 ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City (infront of The Podium). facilities of ambergris is one of the best if not the best that you can find. payroll? competitive but if you are expecting to get "heaven's size" pay you can check out other call centers who can offer you a hefty sum of money for a short period of time.
whats' good about ambergris is the management and the way they inspire their people to aim and strive for the best.
what makes me stay here is the crowd(a lot of cute gals and guys,<ok gays narin!>! ) the culture of the company is good.

Hirashi, it is quite unfortunate that you felt that you have been "shortchanged" by Ambergris for you to have mentioned that "Ambergris is one of the lowest-paying call center in the industry". Contrary to what you mentioned, according to Watson Wyatt's survey, we are one of the more competitively paid players in the industry. Bear in mind that the organization has a streamlined operational structure where leveling is not apparent. For other call centers, agent level could go subdivided up until the 4th level. For the Watson Wyatt survey, call centers are compared apple to apple and in our type of business, Ambergris is competitive.
Share ko lang experience ko earlier at Ambergris
I went there around 10 am. We were told to wait at the lounge. It was almost 11 am when we got a call to proceed to another room for the group interview.
The HR introduced herself, and one by one she called out the name of the applicants using our resume. Applicants who were not called told the HR that they already handed down their resume to another HR member. So HR no. 1 went outside to look for their resume. And then other applicants went inside the room.
When HR no. 1 arrived she already have the resume she needs. She started introducing Ambergris and wrote on the board what we were supposed to answer during the interview. But then there were some applicants who said that they went through the activity already and they were there for the second round of interview. HR no. 1 was at lost again went outside to talk to other HR member. When she came back, she ask the first time applicants to stay, while the rest she talked with them outside one by one. When everything seems ok, we proceed to our business.
Part of the group interview is to select a topic, question, situation or tongue twister. When an applicant chose a tongue twister HR no. 1 said she forgot it in her office and so as her pen. And so went outside again for the nth time. Then finally went back to business and ends without any hitch.
I was new in the call center industry, so i dont expect to be hired. And yes, they didnt gave me another shot of the interview. But one thing I noticed, those who were called to stay are those applicants with call center experience. None of those without call center were given a another chance.
So I am writing this, because I've realized that a call center experience is really an advantage. And on second thought Why is it that they said that fresh graduate are welcome to apply? When in fact, it will be difficult for them to get hired because they lack experince. Am I missing something here?
Another observation, it seems that conversational skills is not a FActor. There are a lot of applicants with good conversational skill and have background with call center but were not given a second chance. Something's amiss here.
Im not sourgraping or something. I just want to share my experience. And im more than happy to underwent all this because this is a new learning experience for me.
BTW, we ended around 1:30 in the afternoon. I hope that they try to improve their hiring process. So there'd be no mix up or delay

Ambergris is on the lookout for talents: fresh graduates and those with experience. While it is definitely an advantage for applicants with experience (from the call center or other industries), we are not discounting fresh graduates. Apart from the technical skills and competencies, Ambergris looks at your personality and the culture fit in our organization and match it to our programs. Hope your experience with Ambergris has not created any biases against the company or the industry. We hope you find a job that suits you and have fun!
Of course I dont harbor any biases or ill feelings at ambergris. I shared this story to other applicants so that they'll know exactly whats happening during the interview or hiring process.
i also would like to suggest, that you try to lessen the burden of the applicants such as waiting for so long, giving them false hope. The HR should also be presentable. You expect the applicants to be properly dressed, yet the HR was not. A side comment from an applicant:Akala ko b a malaki sweldo dito, bakit butas yun damit ng HR? duh?

correct me if i'm wrong but i am assuming by how you've phrased your thoughts that you're actually taking it as a compliment that these things are being said about your company. there's nothing wrong with a little pride and loyalty, and in fairness, i do think that ambergris is one of the more "ideal" (for whatever that word's worth these days) work environments in the industry but you really ought to get over yourselves and be able to take a criticism constructively. it wasn't said out of spite so don't be so quick to add "iba na talaga kapag lumalaki ang companya." it also wasn't said that offhandedly that you may just shrug it off so easily. i don't know what you do in your HR department but the fact stands that a good number of your workers are dissatisfied with how you've been handling your affairs so maybe, just maybe, a little reevaluation is in order. :)

oh sorry my bad... I didn't take it coz you said it yourslelf "i hear wala daw kwenta -generally speaking- ang HR ng ambergris. (lalo na accounting nila, but that's another story.)" and "may mga kwento kwento lang akong narinig from my friends at dell and parang, ngek, never mind." so I thought.. another "tsismis"... I really don’t see the point in criticizing a company based on what a friend said if you yourself did not ACTUALLY experience this. Your friend is still in Ambergris right? Maybe, just maybe one unfortunate encounter with the HR staff should not be the basis of one’s overall assessment of a company. There are competitors who incessantly disparage Ambergris. If these negative accusations were all true, then Ambergris will seize to grow…but we’re still growing.
Coining the company as “walang kwenta” is not exactly what you may refer to as constructive criticism, mind you. We do take pride in the achievements of the company, but at least we do not malign other companies in the industry just so we would look good.

i don't need you to see the point of my criticizing your company. nobody does. you don't represent the entire company, do you? it was more of a 'let's throw this in the air and see if somebody up there thinks it's actually worth looking into' thing. i realize it's none of my business as like you pointed out ever so succinctly, i don't work there. but see, i don't care. free speech.
ambergris IS one of the better ones so it would be a real shame if you started alienating the workers that make you such. since you asked, one is moving to _____ (left blank this time just so we're clear that this isn't the big bad competitor out to get you). i think it's safe to say the others will stay. it's not that huge a deal that they'll be resigning by the truckload, but there has been grumbling and i just thought that maybe with the sh!t these agents have to put up with night after night after night on the phones, we can actually do most, if not all things within our power not to hassle them further. most of them obviously love it there. why not keep it that way, right?
about the "walang kwenta" thing, one of your very own employees said it. i was merely quoting her. and technically, i wasn't refering to it as constructive criticism, i just said you should be able to take criticisms constructively. :) i realize now i should've paraphrased the "walang kwenta" comment into something a little less offensive.
and just so we're real clear on this... if you'd kindly scroll back up, there was actually no "Coining the company as 'walang kwenta'." i believe what was referred to as walang kwenta was the hr and accounting departments (and like i said, especially the latter), and not the company itself.
again, i concede that this is indeed none of my business and perhaps i shouldn't bother pursuing this further since i don't stand to gain anything anyway and i'll just be wasting my time. just take all this as feedback and do with it what you will. ;)

i think those interested to apply to Ambergris would want to know everything that people have to say about the company. negative feedbacks included. in fact, especially the negative feedbacks.
let me share my sister's experience applying to your company:
she did a walk-in application and was advised to come back for an interview in the evening. she did come back, got interviewed, then got endorsed for a second interview. she also did well in that 2nd one, and was in fact asked to come back the next day for a final interview. she went the following day (i think it was also late at night)... she said she was practically asked the same things. afterwards, she was told that she must wait for another call w/c would advise her the sked for the job offer. she took it to mean that they would hire her. i mean how else would anyone take it?
a week later she received the call from Ambergris but it was for a 4th interview. no definite job offer. she was informed that she was being considered for another position/account/department. so she went to ortigas and then came home with yet again an instruction to wait for a call from them. that same week she received the calls for the 5th and 6th interviews, all of which she went to. when my sister asked the HR person if she passed, she was again asked to wait for a call because they'd have to review her qualifications (?!!). by then she was already fuming. the family advised her to give it up altogether because she seemed to be wasting her time. it wasnt as if she was applying for the VP's post or something. we never thought Ambergris' qualifying process for call center agents was that rigid.
luckily, my sister received a call from P&G the following week, w/c was the same week Ambergris had called her for the supposedly 7th interview. Of course this time she wisened up and decided to go to P&G's interview instead. After one exam and 3 interviews, my sister is now employed with Procter & Gamble Phils.
makes one wonder why it would take Ambergris umpteen interviews to make a decision on an application when 3 interviews would suffice to a bigtime corporation...
i really think u should do something about ur hiring process. my sis' complaint isnt the only one i've heard.

Not to discourage other people who plan to apply in Ambergris, I just resigned. And I made a very wise decision.
Regarding with the interview/hiring processes, I had no complaints. They went smoothly. Mistakes or discrepancies are inevitable for there are "lots and lots of applicants" coming everyday compared to the number of HR personnel handling them. If you feel that you are "accidentally" discarded or forgotten, dont be afraid to make a follow-up call and prove your worth. :)
Good luck. Happy job hunting.

hmm... this one is different.. unlike dun sa isa so it's okay.
there should be only 3 interviews...
1st the initial.. then the hr finals.. the 3rd one is for ops... probably she didn't pass the ops interview of the account that she was endorsed to so she's being called back for another interview with a different account..
kumbaga hinahanapan po sya ng work...
sorry for what happen to your sister but we're doing our best para mahire yung sister mo... :) hope this one answers the problem.

Thank you for all your inputs and feedback. We are definitely open to refinements and improvements in our process.
If I may just trace back to an old BB posting, Ambergris not only looks at skillsets but at your personality as well. We are looking for highly dynamic individuals who are ready to work with challenges and rise above them. We search for people who have an entrepreneurial sense as we empower our people and hold them accountable given the huge responsibility bequeathed to them. For the others who have endured longer interview processes, it is merely to find the right fit with other programs given the diversity of our accounts. It is quite unfortunate that this may have not prospered ultimately and we bid you good wishes for a brighter future ahead of you.

Is it really true that you guys pronounce it "Ambergree" Solutions?
Merriam-Webster (m-w.com) pronounces it as "ambergris" and so do other dictionaries. The word is certainly not French even if it's etymology is medieval French in nature.
Middle English, from Old French ambre gris : ambre, amber; see amber + gris, gray; see grisaille.
Is the owner of Ambergris Solutions French, Canadian, or Belgian?

Hmm.. It depends.
Im my ex-account, our graveyard shift varies depending on the overall team performance. Some will get scheds of 8pm - 5am, 9pm-6am, 10pm - 7am, 11pm - 8am, and so on and so forth.
Best teams are more likely to have Saturday and Sunday dayoffs. Poor performing teams will get split dayoffs, which some of the agents hate most. :(
Thank God I am out of it.

ofcourse you can come back. Why what's the reason? can't handle outbound calls?
We have non compete clause and it last for a year. You can only apply with a diff call center after it expires. :)

sweetiepot - hey, what's the prob? i thought enjoy ka jan? why are u thinking of resigning? u can tell me anything.

Sep 25, 2004, 09:49 AM
Hey  I cant really handle outbound calls :( On the first two weeks of actual calls it was really good..as in really good!i dont know what happened after coz my highest will only be 4 or 5..i feel pressured and frustrated shooting for my quota :( maybe my convincing powers is not that good..but i really did my BEST! :(
Actually i already told my TC about this and i already gave her my resignation letter, but when our OPS signed my clearance she told me that im not for RE-hire..what does this mean?? :( Im planning to re-apply after i finished college(one year to go)but i dont know what does she mean about that 'not for RE-hire' thingie.
But im still thankful to this company coz they really gave me a nice experience and i really do appreciate all the opportunities.i really learned a LOT! :) i just hope i can still apply after a year(inbound this time!) :glee:
Question : What does our OPS mean about Not for RE-hire?it's really bugging me.. :(
Thanks

sweetiepot: Bad news and Good news
Bad news: My colleague told me if the OPS signed not-for-rehire that means not-for-rehire to the whole company.
GOOD NEWS: She said you could still reapply but you must have a Recommendation letter from your TC. :)

Leo_Wyatt - it's 638-9440, that's the main trunkline for ASI.
r_69_e - thank you for your help. :)
sweetiepot - dont worry if you wont get rehired by Amber. At least you already have the experience and the training right? Nung una nahirapan din ako sa outbound pero in the end, nasanay na rin. Pro Im not saying na super galing ko. Basta be open to criticisms and advises para matuto ka lalo. Good luck in your studies. ;)
