View Full Version : The Dark Side of your company

No need to mention the specific company...
my story:
I've been in my company for the past 2 1/2 years- i've noticed that only chinese guys get the plum positions.
The very few filipinos occupying top positions are either harassed or treated unfairly.
If a filipino makes a mistake (no matter how small)- but if its a chinese guy (or a guy with chinese ancestry) f*cks up- they chalk it up a "an unavoidable error"- and they rationalize that a good employee must "dare to fail" (if he's not filipino).
Promotion is based on the personal dicretion of anyones suerior (so people who suck up a lot have a high probability of being promoted).
Monthly evaluations? with the impossibly high standards- it's not possible to get the highest rating possible- and if you do get high marks in the monthly eval- the yearly increase sucks big time (a pathetic and measly one digit percentage).
Furthermore- it seems that a lot of (pardon the term) st*pid people occupy the top positions- IMHO, they only got there thru their connections (rather than their merits).
Just cyber-venting :(
what's your story?

Our company's problem is the very (as in very) high employee turnover rate. Why? You can't pass without the "GO" signal of the German bosses who thinks Filipinos are st*pid in making decisions. They appear to be accommodating but in the end, it's still their decision that bears weight. Even our Filipino general manager just bows to them. As a result, employees act like robots. Very, very poor management skills coming from top management. Employees are burned out. I can't say anything more. :(

ang DAMI....
first, the "japanese-first" policy..
Japanese employees get to have the most of the benefits leaving their pinoy counterparts behind..
the compensation..
when i was applying, the recruitment department told me that they offer very attractive compensation, which ahppens to be a little over the minimum wage (is that already attractive to them?) i mean, i cannot even feed myself with the salary that i am getting
the career growth
damn, it would even take me a decade to get myself promoted since promotion is not based on performance but on seniority..
ANG DAMI PA..
ituloy ko na lang ulit..

recently, i came to the realization that the "pyramiding schemes" we so much dread and fear are really just a shadow of the ULTIMATE pyramiding scam ever perpetrated in the history of the modern world...
EMPLOYMENT.
what is the shape of YOUR organizational structure? kahit ano pa ang lapad nyan, pyramid pa din yan. Who earns the MOST money? the guys at the TOP. Why?
because they started it.
because everybody else works FOR them.
How can you justify a CEO earning in Millions every month while the average employee makes around 8thou? the average CEo makes at least 500-1000 times the entry level employee's earnings. they both can only work for not more than 8-10 hours a day right? because everybody works for the CEO, his time is multiplied by the thousands. Kahit mag tumbling ka pa sa opisina mo, hindi tataas sweldo mo.
What are the chances of someone from the bottom making it to the top? next to impossible. Why? because they have to wait for the one on top to either resign or die, either way, they have probably been retrenched by then. Tell me of ONE former employee who made it BIG working for someone else. Wag ka na mag isip sayang oras mo WALANG GANUN.
what would happen if someone from middle management started to earn more than someone from upper management? CHAOS. that would be impossible in a normal org structure.
Who dictates how much you get? your boss. and who dictates how much your boss gets? his boss. etc etc etc...
Why are the chinese in the Philippines more successful? kasi, tinuruan tayo na "Anak, mag aral ka mabuti para pag nakatapos ka, makakuha ka ng magandang trabaho..." where as sa kanila naman "Anak, tapos ka pak aaral pala pak tapos mo, hanap ka maganda business!"
Sobra mindset natin to work for someone else, not for ourselves. To work for money, not make money work for us.
eh yun lang, kaya kung ayaw mo sa Pyramid, mag resign ka na! hehehe!

while one can have a long long discussion about your post, all I'll say is - entrepreneurship is not for everyone! for instance, I personally won't make it starting my own business. I would either be employed, or join up with partners with the business skills. I did the latter.
the dark side of my company:
it's not hidden that we're still a startup and don't have cash yet. :D

Luckily I'm currently employed in a good company that knows how to take care of its people. However the past companies I've worked in had pretty glaring dark sides.
In one company I worked in sa makati, kung hindi ka white, di ka makakataas masyado. In another company I worked in, there was a lack of management focus, and so the company simply "drifted around" with no definite sense of purpose.

Kakabanggit lang ni Saint Luci kung sang company galing si Bernardo... :D :D :D
Nahalata ko lang eh parang there is a similarity among complaints: Kontrolado ng dayuhan ang mga kumpanyang pinapasukan nyo... this is really bad, dito sa sarili nating bansa eh tayo ang alipin...hay...same old problem...hay ulet...
Be safe...

Huwag kayong magalala, igaganti ko kayo :D Kidding aside, I prefer to employ Filipinos over Americans. Mas masisipag kasi tayo at mas dedicated kesa mga Kano. Overall, we have a better working mentality kaya kapag may naga-apply sa akin na Pinoy at Kano, I pick the Pinoy without batting an eyelash (except when there is a big disparity on their experiences). Bottomline is, we don't have to worry about what other people might say, we don't need to blame anyone for our own misfortues, we don't need to brag about anything, and most of all we need not loose hope. We, above anyone else, knows our own capabilities and that is the bottomline.
We build what we are now.
