Some LeBron James Facts

Quote:
- According to the Elias Sports Bureau, since the league began tracking steals and blocks in the 1973-74 season, no player has averaged at least 30 points, 7.9 boards, 7 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in a season with a minimum of 70 games played.

-Even if you take away the steals requirement, no other in that span equaled James' numbers this year. His ability to score, see the floor and block shots makes him one of the NBA's all-time rare talents.

Take away the blocked shots, and the list remains exceedingly short: James and Michael Jordan, who averaged 32.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 2.9 steals in the 1988-89 season (he fell short only in blocked shots, at 0.8 per game).

LeBron among the greats

Only three players in NBA history have averaged at least 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists per game in a season with a minimum of 70 games played: Michael Jordan (once), Oscar Robertson (five times) and LeBron James this season.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baske...rs-table_N.htm

I predict LeBron is going to be the 2nd NBA player to average a Triple Double in the regular season.

Cleveland Cavaliers acquired 3 Draft picks in the 2008 NBA Draft.

JJ Hickson - 19th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft draft. ( I hope he will not end up as a Draft Busts, and he need to show some potential in the Cavaliers Summer Camp).

Cleveland acquires the draft rights to Darnell Jackson ( #52) from Miami in exchange for a second-round selection in 2009.

Sasha Kashun as the 56th overall pick in the Draft ( Sonics in exchange for some cash consideration)

Rommel Beck is already a much better player than some of the SG/SF in our roster, and i think he is going to be the Mexican version of Manu Ginobili.

Beck impressed me in the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship after crossing out Kobe Bryant, and this guy has excellent moves. He has a cross-over that freezes his opponent, he can shoot and get to the basket. His man to man defense is good to. Beck stays in front of his man, his hands are active, and gets in the face of his opponents.

Cavaliers sign J.J. Hickson to 2-year deal

Posted by Mary Schmitt Boyer July 10, 2008 18:42PM

J.J. Hickson will earn between $2.29 million and $2.74 million over the next two seasons after signing his rookie contract with the Cavaliers on Thursday.

First-round draft choice J.J. Hickson of North Carolina State agreed to terms with the Cavaliers on a contract Thursday, one day before leaving to play with the summer league team in Las Vegas.

Hickson, a 6-foot-9, 242-pound forward who was the 19th player selected, signed a two-year deal believed to be worth between about $2.29 million and $2.74 million. According to the pre-determined NBA rookie salary scale as determined in the collective bargaining agreement, Hickson would receive salaries of $1,107,900 for 2008-09 and $1,191,000 for 2009-10. It is believed the Cavs gave Hickson the maximum 20 percent bonus permitted, bumping his salary to $1,329,480 and $1,412,580, respectively.

The CBA permits an initial two-year contract, followed by two separate one-year team options for the player's third and fourth seasons.

Hickson, 19, led the Wolfpack with 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season, tops among all ACC freshmen. He led the ACC in shooting at 59.1 percent. He was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and was an honorable mention on the ACC All-Conference team. He set an ACC freshman record with 23 rebounds against Clemson on Feb. 16, and scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games, including seven games with 20 or more points.

Cavs General Manager Danny Ferry also is negotiating with second-round draft choice Darnell Jackson, who will be allowed to play in Las Vegas even if he hasn't signed a contract. Also on Ferry's plate are pending deals with restricted free agent guards Daniel Gibson and Delonte West, as well as ongoing negotiations with unrestricted free agent forward James Posey of Twinsburg, a key player in Boston's run to the 2008 NBA championship.

Posey's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said the two sides were still talking but that there were no new developments. Other teams believed to be bidding for Posey's services include Boston and New Orleans, along with Washington, Houston and the Lakers. Posey lives in Texas in the off-season. The San Antonio Spurs, who lost out when free agent Corey Maggette decided to go to Golden State, are another possibility.

New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (Summer League)

That is one of the best summer league game that i have ever seen, and although the Knicks beat the Cavs, I am really impress with JJ Hickson after he scored 26 points also grabbed 9 rebounds, and i think he is going to be the starting PF for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the near future.

Danilo Gallinari is also a great young player from the New York Knicks, and I think he needs to have alot of confidence while playing for the Knicks next season. He is also very athletic European player, and i really like his ball handling ability, court vision, and soft touch from the outside.

JJ "The Skyscraper" Hickson

26 Points
9 Rebounds
11-15 FG
29:36 ( Minutes Played)

Danilo " Roster" Gallinari

14 points
6 rebs
2 assists
29:54 ( Minutes Played)

JJ Hickson is the best rookie in the First game game, and i can see the Cavaliers trading Anderson Varejao because Hickson is already a much better individual player than the Brazilian Flopper.

Hickson looked good i thought he is going to be the next Darius Miles, but the kid already have a higher basketball IQ than Miles, and he also hit some of his mid-range jumpers.

Hickson also showed me in this game that he is an inside operator, and he is also capable of grabbing rebounds in the offensive end.

I hope Mike Brown will give this kid enough playing time next season, and i am very impressed with his athleticism.

JJ Hickson was selected in the SI.com All-Vegas Summer League Team:, and i am impressed with this kid's potential to become a very good player in the NBA.

JJ Hickson's Summer League Stats

19.4 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 1.2 bpg, .534 FG%, .500 FT%

SI.com All-Vegas Summer League Team

PG -- Jerryd Bayless, Portland
SG -- O.J. Mayo, Memphis
SF -- Donte' Greene, Houston
PF -- J.J. Hickson, Cleveland
C -- Kevin Love, Minnesota

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...s.recap/1.html

He is a great low posts scorer, shot blocker, and he is one of the most athletic player in his draft class.

Hickson is only 19 yrs.old, and I think he can learn from Ben Wallace because he is one of the best defensive Center in this era after winning 4 defensive player of the year while playing for the Detroit Pistons.

I love the LeBron, Gibson and Hickson trio in the near future, and i think they are going to be successful if LeBron will stay in Cleveland in the 2010 NBA Season.

LeBron James Receives Community Assist Award for June

NEW YORK, July 22, 2008 – Cleveland Cavaliers forward and 2008 USA Basketball Senior National Team member LeBron James has been named the recipient of the NBA Community Assist Award for June, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in the community and for his ongoing philanthropic and charitable work.

The Olympics-bound James is being honored in part for the success of his third annual “King for Kids Bike-A-Thon,” in Akron, Ohio. The event raised more than $150,000 for three local non-profit organizations-- the LeBron James Family Foundation, the Akron Area YMCA and the Akron Urban League. More than 2,000 participants turned out for the day-long event, which raised awareness and funding for important community initiatives while recognizing and rewarding local youth who have achieved academic success, improved their physical fitness and made important contributions within the community.

“Giving back to the community is very important to me, especially since I grew up in the same neighborhoods as the people I want to help,” explains James. “Along with my Foundation, I am committed to bringing families together and showing kids how important it is that they do well in school, stay active and make a real difference in the world around them.”

LeBron also participates in numerous ongoing community building efforts through the LeBron James Family Foundation, which he founded in 2004. Through innovative programs and initiatives, the Foundation empowers children and single-parent families, focusing on strengthening ties between family members and building hope for those facing adversity. Among the Foundation’s most influential national programs are Meal & a Movie and the Playground Build Initiative. Meal & a Movie provides disadvantaged families with the chance to enjoy a special meal together and view a not-yet-released, family-friendly movie and the Playground Build Initiative develops safe spaces where local children and their families can bond and play.

As June’s NBA Community Assist Award recipient, LeBron will receive the David Robinson Plaque, with the inscription, “Following the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson who improved the community piece by piece.” In addition, a $5,000 donation will be given to the LeBron James Family Foundation.

The league presents the NBA Community Assist Award monthly to recognize players for their charitable efforts. The award honors the NBA player who best reflects the passion that the league and its players have for giving back to their communities.

James scores 41 as Cavaliers beat Bucks

Preview | Box Score | Recap

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer 2 minutes ago

Quote:
CLEVELAND (AP)—LeBron James matched a season high with 41 points, finally putting Milwaukee away with a steal and soaring dunk in the final minutes, and Mo Williams scored 16 against his former team as the Cleveland Cavaliers won their fifth straight, 99-93 over the Bucks on Tuesday night.

James scored 12 in the fourth quarter and didn’t come out in the second half while playing a season-best 43 minutes.

With Cleveland leading by five, James poked away a pass intended for Richard Jefferson, streaked to the other end and lifted off one step inside the foul line before smashing the ball through the hoop. Moments later, he dropped an outside jumper and then drove through the lane for a finger roll to give the Cavs an 11-point lead.

It was the third time in four games that James has scored 41.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas added 15 points and Anderson Varejao 13 with 10 rebounds for Cleveland.

Jefferson scored 19 and Luke Ridnour 17—14 in the third—to pace the Bucks, who were again without leading scorer Michael Redd. He missed his fourth straight game with a sprained right ankle. Redd tried to practice on Tuesday, but “was noticeably limping,” coach Scott Skiles said. “It was clear he wasn’t ready.”

Williams, acquired by Cleveland in a trade this summer from Milwaukee, downplayed his first matchup against his old team saying it was “just another day.

His new teammates played like it was just another game for much of the night before closing out the Bucks, who were within 88-83 when James made his game-sealing steal and dunk.

The Cavs led by six points at half and quickly pushed their lead to 11 as Williams hit a 3-pointer and dropped two free throws to open the third quarter.

But Ridnour got hot. He hit two 3-pointers and went 5-for-5 from the field in the period as Milwaukee opened a 69-66 lead with 2:20 left. James, though, responded by making three straight outside jumpers, the last one at the horn to give Cleveland a 74-71 lead entering the fourth.

James was in China at the Beijing Olympics when the Cavaliers acquired Williams, trading forward Joe Smith and guard Damon Jones in a three-team trade with Milwaukee and Oklahoma City. Jones isn’t even with the Bucks, who are allowing him to pursue other opportunities in the league.

James couldn’t remember his first thought at learning of the deal, but he knew he liked it.

“I knew the type of player that he was,” James said. “He has explosiveness. He took over games.”

He did against the Cavs. Williams helped Milwaukee go 3-1 against Cleveland last season, averaging 26 points and nine assists in the four games.

This season, Williams has stabilized Cleveland’s backcourt, given the club another scoring option and become the point guard the Cavs have coveted since James turned pro. Williams has been everything the Cavs could have hoped for.

“Even a little bit more,” James said.

Notes

Longtime Cavs radio play-by-play announcer Joe Tait led the crowd in a standing ovation before the opening tip for former Indians pitcher and broadcaster Herb Score, who died Tuesday at the age of 75. Tait called Indians games on the radio alongside Score from 1973-79. … The Cavs came in shooting 85 percent (76-of-89) on free throws in their past three games, their highest percentage in a three-game span since 2005. Cleveland went 26-of-32 from the line.
