Hi Folks,Not sure if this will be the best forum, anyway, just point me to the correct one if this is not. A friend of mine is asking me some information regarding working conditions in Singapore. He is a system administrator and he is current being offerred a job on this city state. Questions: ![]() 1. How much is the salary range for system admins (Unix/Windows) there? 2. What are the pros in working there? 3. Any site/s where we can look into FAQ's on being a Filipino expat in Singapore? Your advise will be highly appreciated! Thanks, TwiztedMynd ![]() |

who among you have worked in singapore?
I am seriously thinking about it... but they said that the standard of living there is very, very high...
My target monthly would be 3000 singapore dollars. Rent of a flat is around 500 daw, so hanap ako ng makakasama. tax daw e 15%. and a measly pack of cigarettes is worth 7-8 dollars!!! mas mahal pa sa isang ordinary meal!!! i was thinking, kung magiging pareho lang ang net ko after all those expenses, baka parang nagtrabaho lang ako dito sa pinas nyan. kaya i'm looking for inputs from those who have already gone there... tulong naman. ![]() |

If you have an employer waiting S$3000 is enough but if you will look for a job, man dont ever think about it unless you have plenty of money to spend.
I still remember my officemates there in SG before when they bought a half pack of cigarette for a week consumption. Also we value our money to the last cent. Pag umutang ka sa kasama mo ng barya make it sure na babayaran mo sila. In our case, we dont have a problem for the shelter and food because its a company expenses. hope that helps ![]() |

My hunny was in Singapore 2 weeks ago. Indeed the cost of living is very high. One meal would cost you around 4 Sing$, that's around P120.00, konti pa. Di pa busog. His friends that work there are renting a condo (since mayaman lang ang me bahay at lupang sarili sa Singapore). The rent goes up to 1000 Sing$ so mga P30000 yun. ![]() |

so it's true... hirap nga pala talaga doon.
even heard that the police officers are damn strict! even if you're not planning to buy any pirated CDs, if you even dared touch them, huli ka agad... reason given is "interested" ka na daw. to think sinetup lang yon para mamingwit ng mahuhuli. well just heard it from my friends who worked there. some of my friends worked, or are still working there, find it easy going back and forth to singapore during weekends. mura lang daw talaga pamasahe... pero enyways, mukhang nagdadalawang isip na ako ah. although di pa final, may series of interviews kasi ako for citibank... pinag-iisipan ko lang kung gugustuhin ko nga pumunta don. ![]() |

It is true that Singapore has a very high standard of living. I would say that the pay is a lot better compared to what I was earning before in the Philippines. I don't know with you baka malaki ang sweldo mo dyan. You make take the following basic expenses into consideration: (Amount in Sing dollar) flat rental (room): 500 Fare: 300 PUB (utilities exp): 100 Food: 400 Phone: 300 Shopping: 200 TOTAL: SGD1800. May sobra ka pang SGD1,200 or about Php35,000. Now, if you think this net is lesser than what you are earning in the Philippines right now, pag isipan mo munang mabuti bago ka magpuntang Singapore. Actually the expenses I have mentioned above are way too much for me. Maximum na talaga yan para sa akin. Again, depende kasi yan sa lifestyle mo. Below is my own monthly expenses (in Sing dollar): room rental: 200 (1 room is 400 but I shared it with a friend). fare: 50 (walking distance lang yong flat namin sa ofc) food: 200 (kasi nagluluto me although minsan pag tinatamad, kumakain sa labas) PUB: 75 Phone: 50 (kasi no cellphone me **; may bayad pati incoming; may home at ofc phones naman so ok lang for me; I use calling cards to call Philippines. SGD50 = 5 cards or 200mins) Miscellaneous: 200 (lakwatsa, konting shopping, etc) TOTAL: 775. Actually you can have a cellphone kasi di naman masyadong mahal ang cellphone dito at monthly is about SGD30 lang naman. But I've already learned my lesson. I'm now using calling cards. O sya, I hope this helps a little bit. |

As for Geylang, well....wala akong problema dyan kasi ako ang binabayaran pag pumunta ako dyan, hehehe! hoy Joke lang yan ha! Di pa talaga ako nakapunta dyan. promise! Ba't kasi pumupunta kapa ng Geylang? Mauubos ang pera mo dyan! |

i studied in s'pore... counted ba yan? hehe...
the cost of living is indeed high, pero u get your money's worth naman. i think the gov't is just looking after the country's interest kaya masyadong strict when it comes to implementing the law. pero di ka naman pupunta dun para gumawa ng kalokohan di ba? and i think that compared to other countries, mas maganda na magtrabaho sa s'pore coz malapit lang sa pinas. pwede kang umuwi anytime na gusto mo. kami nga noon twice a year kung umuwi dito sa pinas kasi mura lang talaga pamasahe.... pwede mo pa papuntahin pamilya mo... o, di parang nasa pinas ka pa rin. |

I have plans of taking my masters in Nanyang after graduation (if i graduate with honors) or after 2 years of working here in the Phils. Does anyone of you managed to work and study at the same time? How was it?

sayang naman daw kasi ilang months din syang naghintay to pass her O'levels. she's now in junior college & maghihintay pa sya to take her A'Levels before she can finally pursue a university degree... Ang haba ng proseso.that's the reason why i decided to study college ** sa pinas... pero maganda mag-masters dun... balak ko nga rin gawin yan after i graduate. ok talaga facilities nila and methodology. but if i were u, i wouldn't think of studying and working at the same time, mahihirapan ka lang... what are planning to take up in ntu, by the way? |
