As far as she is concerned, Claudine Barretto said she has no problem with Judy Ann Santos with whom she has been reported to be fueding silently.

"But while we are friends, we are not that close," she stressed at the recent press conference for "Maligno," the second of the Sineserye Presents Susan Roces Cinema Collection (the first being "Patayin Mo sa Sindak si Barbara" starring Kris Aquino) on ABS-CBN. The televised "Maligno" will air within the month on the network’s Primetine Bida.

Claudine, who looked as if she didn’t give birth because she’s back to her enviable figure, and still voluptuously at that even with her recent breast reduction operation, related that whenever they bump into each other, Juday would happily inquire about Claudine’s children. They would exchange info on their children (yes, Judy Ann has one adopted girl who is called Yohan, while Claudine has two, Sabina who she and husband Raymart Santiago adopted, and Rodrigo, their natural child).

Although Juday and Claudine were rumored to be having a cold war ever since they were noted to have ignored each other during a pictorial, both have denied there’s a rift between them. They didn’t even dignify questions as to who the real "ABS-CBN Queen" is between the two of them, although with two blockbuster movies in succcesion for Judy Ann, and a successful teleserye to boot, she could easily claim the title.

Anyway, Claudine is back and with "Maligno" she would be enhancing her image and stature as "Horror Queen," having appeared in horror flicks that were all box-office hits in the past. Considered a staple in the network’s Primetime Bida slot, Claudine’s last assignment before her date with the stork was the successful teleserye "Walang Kapalit" which paired with another ABS–CBN prized possession, Piolo Pascual.

The TV remake of the horror film which according to former "Queen of Philippine Movies" Ms. Susan Roces gave her her very first Best Actress award from FAMAS, also stars Diether Ocampo, Rafael Rosell, Kim Chiu, Gerard Anderson, DJ Durano, Arlene Tolibas, Empoy and introducing Carlo Lacana. Veteran actress Rio Locsin has a special participation in "Maligno," and of course Ms. Susan Roces led the powerhouse cast, although at the recent press conference at ABS-CBN’s Studio 1, she let the young cast have their moment and didn’t join them on the stage.

But Ms. Roces expressed pride in the cast’s performance especially in the first episode which was shown to the entertainment press after the press conference. Ms. Roces also said she’s honored that "Maligno" has been made into television and thanked ABS-CBN for making this happen. "If Celso Ad. Castillo were here, I know he’ll be as proud as I am." Castillo directed "Maligno" the movie.

The story of "Maligno" revolves around the life of an ambitious woman who was fated to give birth to the demon child. Despite her skepticism, destiny catches up with her as several revelations unfold and she realizes that her beloved son is doomed to become a satanic cult’s messiah. Will she sacrifice his life to prevent the prediction from happening? Or will her love for her son prevail and keep him from reigning as evil?

In "Maligno," Claudine will reprise the role of Ms. Susan Roces as Angela,the pre-destined mother of the demon child.

Watch out for Claudine’s major television comeback via "Maligno," airing soon this April on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

Hindi pa alam kung ano’ng oras i-ere ang Maligno na magsisimula sa April 28. Bagama’t papalitan nito ang Kung Fu Kids na magtatapos naman sa April 25, baka raw magkaroon ng movement sa timeslot.

Pinagtatalunan kasi kung sa maagang time slot ito i-ere o medyo late na. May nagsasa-suggest kasi na huwag gawing maaga ang airing dahil hindi bagay sa mga bata ang maseselang eksena, lalo na nga ang first episode.

Pero, may nagsasabi rin naman na dapat ay late na ito i-ere dahil baka naman madala hanggang sa pagtulog ang mapapanood at magkaroon pa tuloy ng nightmare.

Samantala, kumalat ang balita sa showbiz na isa-sanitize raw ang rape scene nina Claudine Barretto at Rafael Rosell sa Maligno dahil umapela raw ang aktres na baka maapektuhan ang mga endorsement niya sa sobrang selan ng eksena.

Pero nang makausap namin ang isa sa production team ng horror-serye, aniya ay wala raw silang ganu’ng appeal na natatanggap mula kay Claudine.

Kung sakali man daw na mae-edit ang first episode, ito ay dahil sa pinagbawalan sila ng MTRCB. Pero ayon na rin kay Direk Wenn Deramas sa presscon, naaprubahan naman ito at very thankful sila about it.

BAGAMA’T aminado si Claudine Barretto na niner-biyos siya nu’ng presscon ng Maligno (ipapalabas sa hu-ling linggo ng Abril sa primetime bida), dahil naroon that night si Susan Roces, sobrang tuwa naman siya dahil, aniya, sa kanyang pagbabalik telebisyon ay isang Su-san Roces Cinema Collection ang kanyang ginawa.

Ayon naman kay Tita Susan, ang Maligno ay mala-king bahagi ng kanyang career dahil ito ang unang pro-yektong nagbigay sa kanya ng acting award sa Famas.

Dagdag pa ng movie queen, ito rin pelikulang pinrodyus niya na idinerehe ni Celso Ad Castillo noong 1976.

Diretsahan ding sinabi ni Claudine na oo nga’t super proud siya na siya ang napiling gumanap bilang Angela Cortez, aminado rin ang aktres na nagdalawang-isip siyang gawin ang horror-serye na ito dahil sa maseselang eksena.
