 Laarni Losala (b. June 23, 1985) is a Filipino singer and performer from Sultan Kudarat, who is a contestant in ABS-CBN's popular reality TV talent search Pinoy Dream Academy - the Philippine edition of Endemol's Star Academy. Her voice has been hailed as one of the most emotive voices in the Philippines. She is also known as "The Voice of An Angel", the "Ethereal Diva", "Versatile diva" and the "Independent Woman". Although she does sing many other musical genres, her specialty lies in classical , operatic and rock music. BIOGRAPHY Raised in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat in the Philippines, Laarni Losala, was just a simple girl with big dreams.Laarni was a consistent honor student in school in Isulan, she also excelled in the arts such as dancing and is also a very good farmer. Even at a very young age, she found solace emulating and listening to her idols Lea Salonga and Regine Velasquez, she schooled herself early on to singing the songs of her musical idols.She won various singing competitions in Sultan Kudarat to further hone her singing and performing skills. Knowing that she had the talent to really make it big, she dreamed that one day, she would be able make her mark in the music scene of the Philippines as a famous recording artist and help her family escape the claws of poverty. When she was 15 years old, her Aunt from the US vowed to help Laarni make her mark as a singer. Her aunt enrolled Laarni to performing and voice lessons and also enrolled her at the School of Music of The Philippine Women's University. Although her aunt was not a singer, she was all out for her support for Laarni, she would teach her how to use her hands when she was singing, she would teach her how to use her face in expressing the meaning of her songs in order to better her performances. She taught her to observe her gestures, her non-verbal actions when she was performing. Through her aunt's connections, she became a talent of the late and great Rudy Francisco of the Calesa Bar. Rudy also mentored some of the finest lounge singers in the Philippines like Sitti, Mari Nallos, Janet Basco, Vernie Varga, Joey Albert, Dulce, Marissa Sanchez, Ivy Violan, Isay Alvarez, Lourna Pal, Aliya Parcs, Raymond Lauchenco and the Side A band. Feeling culture shocked about the sophistication of her peers, who were all fashionable and eloquent in english, Laarni decided to shift her course from Music to Education. Laarni, vowed to become a better person, a better performer, an eloquent speaker and a confident singer. She is a devout Catholic who found solace in singing at the PWU Church everyday. She would sing at the 12 noon mass and vocalize everyday to further hone her voice. She would vocalize with her church friends and co-singers. This singing exposure helped Laarni become a permanent fixture at all events of The Philippine Women's University, she would sing for different functions, singing competitions and other guestings. Her talent also helped helped her become a University scholar, which required Laarni to work as a student assistant of the school. Before joining Pinoy Dream Academy, she already joined different singing competitions, she won the Rotary Club Intercollegiate/University singing competition, besting 25 schools in Manila by rendering the patriotic anthem "Dakilang Lahi". She also won the National Grand Finals of the "Campus Idol" search, by delivering a flawless performance of "What Kind of Fool Am I", that left judge Wency Cornejo speechless. Laarni also tried to be independent. There were times when she felt so alone and hopeless but she never gave up on her dreams. She knew that God is guiding her and vowed that she would give it her all so that her dreams would come true. She vowed that she would be singing to give glory and honor to God. She was always assisted by her friends and mentors from the University. She worked as a wedding singer with her best friend Mark, the 2 would be singing in different churches, hotels and venues all over the metropolis. Laarni and Mark would record various albums at the Karaoke King and would perform frequently at a karaoke venue in a mall in Manila which attracted a lot of admirers and fans. As a chorale aficionado, she would also join various chorales in Manila. She joined the PWU Church chorale, The Ambassadors of Light -a chorale for the blind people, The Malate Church Chorale and the Coro de San Sebastian, a Madrigal et. al chorale. Through her extensive chorale background she was able to perform with the Philippine Madrigal Singers in a Madrigal Et Al concert with her chorale Coro De San Sebastian. Upon learning about the auditions of Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2, Laarni grabbed the opportunity at once. Singing her favorite song "Lead Me Lord", Laarni was able to make it through to the top 16 and really get the admiration of the PDA 2 Dream Mentors. AS of now, belongs in the prestigious Top 6 scholars. Her versatility in different genres, the very high difficulty of her songs helped her gain fans all over the world known as the Global Laarnians. The millions of viewers who watch the show have fallen in love with her voice that has been described as angelic, ethereal, magical, emotive, pure and sublime. Laarni, often misunderstood by people remained steadfast and focused on achieving her dreams. She devotes her time vocalizing, practicing her songs and helping her co-scholars master their performances. Laarni also gained a huge following internationally, people loved her spunk, her determination to succeed, her passion and focus on improving her music and her pure heart. Laarni is a consistent top 3 scholar for the season along with Liezel and Bugoy, and has become a PDA Star Scholar, which paved the way for a performance of the song "Hiram" with the Divine Diva, Zsa Zsa Padilla on the popular musical variety show, ASAP. She also performed "The Prayer" with 2005 World Championships of Performing Arts finalist and winner Jed Madela in a gala night. Laarni has also been a Youtube sensation even before Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2. Other than music she also loves badminton, flamenco dancing, debate, teaching and acting. Laarni performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in the Opera entitled "Mayo, Sa Bisperas ng Liwanag" and other Filipino classics for the show Paco Presents. Laarni also guested once in the show "Master Showman" by German Moreno Her musical influences are Leona Lewis, Lara Fabian, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Charlotte Church, Sitti, Charice Pempengco, Gary Valenciano, Renee Olstead, Enya, Barbra Streisand, her aunt Linda, her teacher in PWU-Beth Ancheta, Ambassador of Lights Leader-Anderson Go and her former mentor-Rudy Francisco. |

Hometown: Sultan Kudarat The Independent Woman 9th Gala Night Star Scholar On Probation: twice Laarni Losala was more popular for her onscreen antics than her singing. Earlier in the contest, Suldan Kudarat's "The Independent Woman" was under fire due to her numerous crying fits and arguments with a number of her co-scholars (particularly Iñaki Ting and Bea Muñoz). But while she managed to land in the weekly top three prior to the announcement of the Headmaster's List of Ten, Laarni made her mark during the 7th Gala Night, with her flawed but nonetheless remarkable rendition of "Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin." It was surprising that Laarni was able to make the April Boy Regino hit sound fresh and exciting. However, it was more surprising that the mentors failed to recognize Laarni's efforts when she was nominated for probation for that same song. Thanks to the face-off challenge, she was nominated for probation despite getting the fourth highest grade for that week. But the mentors chose to save Bunny Malunda, that week's lowest ranking scholar, instead, earning the ire of loyal viewers. That Laarni got the highest percentage of text vote for that nomination (an overwhelming 72.74 percent, a remarkable gap considering Miguel Mendoza, who had previously managed to score an impressive text vote lead of his own, was also on probation that week) is a clear indication that the voters felt she did not deserve to be on probation. An even more impressive feat: Laarni is the only scholar besides Jay Bogoyan and Liezel Garcia to get the title of Star Scholar for an individually-graded performance. Forget that her version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" was forgettable. At her best, Laarni is clearly one of the few scholars in the Academy who deserves to be called Grand Star Dreamer.  |

THE PERSECUTION OF LAARNI - Part 5 - LAARNI LOSALA
If the Pinoy Dream Academy were the Olympics many of the contestants, judges and mentors would be eliminated for dishonesty and lack of fair play. Doping would also be a factor as some of the 18-year-old faction poisoned the minds of other contestants with negative backstabbing statements with Laarni Losala being their primary target. Laarni was singled out to be the prey for blood thirsty predators with lesser talent. Odd enough they were from comfortable privileged backgrounds while she came from a very poor abusive upbringing. They had the means and money to afford the latest stylish fashions and cosmetics while she was in a position of having to scrape enough money together TO EAT. She tried to change all of that by leaving home in Sultan Kudarat at the age of 15 and head for the big city of Manila and work her way through college and sing with the hope of making something of her life so she could earn enough money and return to her home and help her poor family financially to rise from the depths of poverty. She may have intended to leave the abuse behind but abuse was to be a part of her life again and again and again on the Pinoy Dream Academy. From the beginning of the Dream Academy program she was singled out as being problem and indifferent thus labeled the Independent Woman. It was as if she was to take the verbal abuse heaped on her and the contestant's avoidance of her. It was as if she was expected to eat $#!t and DIE. Head games came about when the programs resident psychoanalyst came on the show and singled out Laarni and her problem with Inaki her chief tormentor. The psychoanalyst tried to impress upon Laarni that what she thought about Inaki was her PERCEPTION of him. It was as though she was wrong about her thoughts though it was a result of her experience. The method was more of deflection rather than reflection. Her thoughts were justified since his action was televised on INTERNATIONAL television for the world to see. In my experience of working with, interviewing, critiquing and reviewing performance and recordings of some of the biggest legends in music, entertainment and sports I have NEVER witnessed such mistreatment of an individual. That experience includes 10 years as a member of the Television Critics Association (TCA). Unfair treatment surfaced when during week seven and eight Laarni was in the bottom four again making her a resident of the bottom four 50% of the time she was in the competition. The strange thing about her bottom four selections in week seven was her score was 8.0 higher than Chris 7.17, Sen 7.33 and Inaki 7.87 yet she was placed in the bottom four and they weren't. That week seven she wasn't saved by the mentors or fellow scholars and she was left to the mercy of viewer voting if she would be eliminated from the program. She was up against two 18-year-olds Miguel and Apple one of her tormentors. Much to the shock of the mentors Laarni received 72.74% of the viewer voting to remain on the show. Miguel received 13.96% and Apple 13.30%. It was at this point of being the viewer's choice that the mentor's attitude towards her changed drastically. She took the mentors mental beat downs but the viewing audience respected her talent though her mentors downplayed her skills and made life difficult for her. In week eight the mentor's favoritism towards Liezel and Bugoy became more evident. The mentors chose the songs they were to sing that week. When the top student Liezel who was selected the best for the first four consecutive shows met with the mentors she was told that they were going to give her a song that she could relax and have fun with and enjoy. They gave her Best of My Love by The Emotions a song that compliments her voice and shows her commercial side. With Laarni the said they wanted to challenge her (translation - put her in a tough spot to force her out of the competition). They assigned her Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen which is one of the most difficult songs anyone could sing. Freddie Mercury and American Idol's Michael Johns are the only singers I've ever herd do justice to the song. It's a song that is so difficult that if you had the choice you would pass. Laarni didn't have that choice. John's is on the American Idol 50 city tour and Mercury is dead. It appeared as if the mentors wanted to put Laarni in Mercury's position. Once again as Gloria Gaynor sang… Laarni survived by being saved by the mentors.. The mentors have given their pride and joys Liezel and Bugoy commercial songs that enhance the commercial side of their talent while they assign Laarni songs that are more about challenging her and trying to expose her weakness rather than display her strengths and strong commercial talent. Her rendition of Natural Woman is exactly they type of song that show her true commercial strength, songs that the viewing audience can relate to. After being singled out again Laarni bounced back and for the first time was selected as being the top scholar for week nine. She was ecstatic. The strange thing is her performance was nowhere near as strong as her performance of Natural Woman. In being selected the weeks Top Scholar Laarni performed this past Sunday August 24 on ASAP an ABS-CBN variety show featuring all of their top talent including Sarah Geronimo the true example of a young star with talent, dignity and class. Liezel and Bugoy being the mentors only other top scholar selections are the only other Dream Academy contestants who have appeared on ASAP. On ASAP Laarni sang with Philippine singing legend Za Za Padillia. Together they rendered a strong performance. Both have strong voices but Laarni though lacking top notch experience was up to the task and did herself proud. On week nine's performance show August 16, another Philippine singing legend Lani Misalucha judged Laarni and gave her one of the few compliments Laarni has received this year. "You are a great singer there's no doubt about that," Misalucha said. Laarni is finally receiving the respect and praise that she deserves and she has qualified for the Top Six contestants who are eligible to win the grand prize that includes a house and 1 million pesos (US $ 22,727). Laarni Losala's talent is obvious to those who are intelligent and have no agenda of manipulating results…. and that is one of the biggest problems with the Pinoy Dream Academy program. The public will vote to decide the winning order of the Top Six and who will win the various prizes. NOTE Inaki's performance is buffoonery and reminiscent of a trained circus seal and nothing more. His voice is horrible. Laarni has talent and a big voice that other contestants often fear and admit it. A point of fact is American Idol judge Simon Cowell often remarks to a contestant 'You're performance is not memorable." This is a statement he could never make to Laarni after she sang 'Natural Woman.' It by far was the best performance of anyone on the show this season but was sternly graded and finished 3rd in the ratings for the night. Her rendition can be seen and heard on You Tube. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Laarni. The Link to the Natural Woman video will appear on the first page. Listen and you will see and hear the injustice heaped on her. Her song is memorable. Conversely Inaki is on You Tube and is accused of lying. There is also a video of him during tryouts for the show where he sings Seals & Croft's 'Summer Breeze' which he never attributed to them and says it was his arrangement. The video includes the Seals & Croft's version as well as another performer and Inaki's. Go to Google and type in Pinoy Dream Academy. After that come up add Inaki. The tipster sent me to a link in YouTube where Inaki, without batting an eyelash said he originally arranged his audition piece “Summer Breeze” to the amazement of the clueless judges. Just check this video below to see Inaki scandalously lying. (Note: the spelling is really Iñaki, but most keyboards nowadays don’t have “ñ” hence the change to “n”). After you see that and Laarni singing Natural Woman you can plainly see something is wrong with this show and Inaki is undeservedly involved. Why…favoritism, family connections with the network is not clear? That remains to be revealed.
